Elvee Henderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 12, 2007.
Funeral services were held for Elvee Bonnie Piper Henderson, 87, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. in Smyrna Baptist Church in Sugartown, La. The Rev. Frank Ott and the Rev. A. Ray Faulk officiated and burial followed immediately in Smyrna Cemetery under the direction of Labby Funeral Home in De Ridder. Mrs. Henderson passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at her residence. Affectionately known as Grandma or Great Moo, she will be remembered as a kind and loving person who extended a deep and compassionate friendship to everyone she knew. She was born and reared in Baton Rouge and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies from Louisiana State University before moving to DeRidder in 1975 with her husband. Grandma loved traveling. She enjoyed the simple pleasures such as conversing, listening to family music sessions, playing dominoes and Scrabble, sharing amusing anecdotes, working on her genealogy, and creating needlework. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Samuel R. Henderson; four children and their spouses, Harry Hutches Henderson, Kerryl Lynne Henderson of De Ridder, Dr. Richard W. Henderson (Carol) of Florence, SC, Dr. Thomas C. Henderson (Joelle) of Salt Lake City, Utah; nine grandchildren, Tara Henderson, Ashley Henderson (Nina), Bonnie Henderson George (Travis), Brian Henderson (Jaime), Laura Henderson Russell (Todd), Loik Henderson (Jennifer), Christopher Henderson, Ian Henderson and Natalie Henderson; seven great-grandchildren, Chloe Henderson, Noah Barber, Autumn George, Ethan George, Katie Henderson, Charlotte (C. Piper) Henderson and Aiden Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Hutches and Eliza Elvee Bozeman Piper; and her three brothers, Toliver, Alder and Harry Piper. Grandma will be sorely missed, but we look forward to seeing her on the other side in Gods glory!

The obituary was wonderful; it gave the full flavor of Mrs. Henderson with her many interests, of which her family was the most important.

It made me remember the good times we had traveling and the kindness she showed my family with her crocheted gifts.
