Elwood W. Smith
Elwood W. Smith, a resident of Lindon, passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2008 in Orem. He was born June 24, 1917 in Milford, Conn., the son of Elwood W. Smith, Sr. And Jesse Dorothea Baldwin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leone, his sister Elaine Mann of Orem and one niece, Linda Stucki of Highland, and great nieces and a nephew.
Elwood and Leone were married October 30, 1997, he became a member of a large family, 2 daughters, Lynda (Jim) McKechnie, Patti (Howard) McRoberts, 10 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
He attended college in Denver, Co. and the ROTC, where he earned his pilot's license. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. As a 1st Lieutenant he served in China as a bombardier on B-24's during World War II.
Elwood retired from Colliers Magazine where he worked as a commercial artist. While living in New York, he greatly enjoyed bird watching in Central Park.
After the passing of his 1st wife, he moved to Utah to live with his sister. Soon he was Square Dancing and a member of the Mavericks of Orem and the Guys and Gals of American Fork. His dance partner, Leone J. Petersen, became his sweetheart and they were soon married and enjoyed many fun years dancing together. The world will miss Elwood's sweet nature and many talent's.
Funeral services will be held Friday August 1, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lindon Stake Center, 56 East 600 North, Lindon. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the services at the stake center. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery with military rites provided by American Legion Post # 72.
