EMIL BURES JR.

GANADO - Emil Bures Jr., 83, of Ganado, passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2010. He was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Ganado, to Therisa Okruhlik Bures and Emil Bures Sr.
Emil bravely served in World War II as a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division for three years and was also assigned to the special Task Force Frigid in Alaska in 1946.
After the army, he became a rig builder and then in 1949 started in the family business of farming. In farming he was very progressive in that he was one of the first to go to six row and then twelve row equipment. In addition he was also the first one to have a cotton picker in the county. In 1951 he received his private pilot's license and was able to crop-dust his own fields. He continued on to farm in Jackson County for over 60 years until his passing. During his farming career, he held such positions as director for Gulf Compress in Corpus Christi for fifteen years, and board member of both Danenvang and Edna Farmer's Co-ops.
He served as a member for many years of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He was a life long member of the Assumption Catholic Church of Ganado and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus No. 3204, third and fourth degree.
Emil married Annie Mae Supak on Oct. 25, 1949, and had 12 children.
In 2006, his son Joey was proud to present him with his diploma as a graduate of Ganado High School alongside his granddaughter Ashley.
Emil loved playing dominos with his friends and watching his grandsons play football. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and has left lasting memories for everyone who surrounded him. He recently enjoyed his 83rd birthday and a large Christmas celebration with his family.
Emil is survived by his wife, Annie Mae; children, Alice Carrier and husband John of Victoria, Deborah Garrett and husband Jim of Louise, the late Robert "Cowboy" Bures' wife Rosalee "Sam", Linda Hahn and husband Glenn of Baytown, William "Bill" Bures and wife Veronica, Diane Young and husband Royce, Matthew "Joey" Bures and wife Michele, Anna Stevens and husband Cole, Theresa "Tessie" Kubala and husband Steven, all of Ganado; brothers Gerald "Rabbit" Bures, and Bernard Bures of Ganado, Albert Bures of Yoakum; and sister, Angie Smith of Victoria.
