DARLINGTON -- Emily Wood Badham Coxe, 93, died on December 4, 2003. She was the widow of Thomas Chatterton Coxe, Jr. Mrs. Coxe was born in Edenton, N.C. and was the daughter of Emily Wood Fagan Badham and Richard Paxton Badham. Mrs. Coxe was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, The Over-The-Teacups Club, The National Society of Colonial Dames of America, The Palmetto Garden Club, The Garden Club of America, of which she served as Chairman of the Founders Fund Committee. Mrs. Coxe was the first woman appointed to SC Educational Television Commission and the first woman Trustee from South Carolina to serve at her alma mater, St. Mary's College, Raleigh, NC. She was a writer and authored a book, Mother of the Maid, which was published in 1960. Mrs. Coxe is survived by two sons, Thomas Chatterton Coxe III and Richard Badham Coxe, both of Darlington, and three daughters, Emily Coxe Winburn of Savannah, GA, Patricia Coxe Ware, of Richmond, VA, and Vicky Coxe Commander of Jacksonville, FL, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Richard Paxton Badham Jr. of Raleigh, NC. A graveside service will be held at Skufful Farm, 1900 Mont Clare Rd., Darlington, SC at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2003, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, PO Box 804, Darlington, SC, 29540, or The Garden Club of America Endowment Fund, 14 E. 60th St., NY, NY, 10022.
