Healy, Emily Sigrid
3/8/1940 - 12/14/2023
Ann Arbor, Michigan
Emily Sigrid Healy, age 83, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
Emily was born on March 8, 1940 in Melvindale, Michigan to Harold and Lenora (Daley) Nolan. During early childhood, the Nolan family moved to Allen Park and later to Dearborn Heights. After graduating from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Emily began taking classes at University of Michigan-Dearborn where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. She began working for the Taylor Public School System where she would remain for the duration of her career. Throughout her life, Emily was deeply committed to learning, education, and enrichment for others as well as herself. While working, Emily earned her first master's degree from Eastern Michigan University and later received a second from Oakland University.
At age 52, Emily retired from teaching and relocated to Pensacola, Florida with her son, Frank. They enjoyed the beach and warm weather, however, after a few years they returned to Michigan and settled in Ann Arbor. During retirement, Emily looked forward to traveling, both domestically and internationally. She spent several summers exploring various cities throughout Europe and had a special connection with Italy.
In her spare time, she enjoyed music. She played the piano exceptionally well and looked forward to singing with the Out Loud Chorus of Washtenaw County. Emily had an extensive knowledge of show tunes and loved singing along to her favorites from The Sound of Music. Emily was also a true crime fanatic and looked forward to going to various forensic conventions around the country and reading books on this subject. She had a deep love for animals of all kinds: she loved her cats, Shadow and Nora, and looked after outdoor animals like birds and deer at her home. She donated to many causes to help with animal welfare, including the World Wildlife Fund, the ASPCA, the American Humane Society, and the Michigan Humane Society.
Emily will be deeply missed by her son, Frank Nolan Healy, her friend, Tracy Endicott, and Janice Morris. She was friendly with everyone she met and had many acquaintances. She was always ready with a winning smile and light conversation, and she treated every person and creature she met with kindness and love.
Memorial donations can be made in Emily's honor to the Huron Valley Humane Society.

Emily was a kind, funny and smart woman with a great love of music, animals and a wonderful curiosity about life. She will be missed. I so enjoyed our conversations and her bawdy sense of humor. My condolences to her son and close friends.
