So sorry I'm just learning of the death of Commissioner Darnell. I worshipped at the W. Mitchell CME Church in 2000-2002 when a student at Phillips School of Theology at the ITC. Commissioner was also a member at W. Mitchell and was very receptive of my involvement of the ministry alongside the pastor. My greatest condolences to family and friends and constituents of Fulton County. May her legacies continue...

I was a jr. at Clark College at Atlanta U. 1971.
I was assigned to Ms. Darnells office as an intern...what I most recall after submitting a research assignment to her desk, she asked did you do your best on this study..I said yes and she replied "that's all that's required" an edict that hold to this day and pass on to my students and council.
I loved Emma Darnell.

No matter where I've been in Atlanta when I picked up the paper or I attended a community service meeting always heard the voice of Emma Darnell and I always knew that we were in good hands if she was around. She kept us informed she kept us encouraged but most of all she cared about us long before I became a senior citizen. Atlanta is great because of people like mrs. Emma Darnell because without it ladder would be just another southern town with a bunch of knuckleheaded people who ain't got no sense. Emma Darnell did not suffer fools quietly she gave you the time that you needed but you knew she had to move on the other thing I am so very fortunate I got a chance to meet and communicate with this lady she allowed me to learn so much more about government policies and how to conduct myself at a meeting. I will always remember Emma Darnell see you a proverbs 31 10 all the way to the end of the chapter she is worthy to be praised

When I heard about a death her death I was going over commissioner Arrington social page and that's when he announced it and it was like a the wind got knocked out of me. I was caught up a surprise. This is a stupid statement but I thought she live forever parent there was so much work to be done and yes she had done so much I'm very happy to say I got a chance to meet with her talk with her thank you for your services countless times at the Darnell Center. I am so happy that I live long enough to meet this great lady to let her know what a great job she was doing. Emma Darnell with a champion for a senior citizen specially on the westside in Atlanta. She had a mind that was quick Sharp and she know exactly how to deal with opposition. Happy Mother's Day mrs. Darnell patchouli you have mothered us through many trials and tribulation and I'm so glad that you get a chance to rest. To God be the glory.

Ms. Darnell a true pioneer in our society walked and talked with dignity! My heart is a bit sad, because your no longer with us, but your spirit shall live on in many of our hearts and minds this day! I have learned a lot in my short time knowing and hearing about you! I have been in many of your community meetings and they were always powerful, uplifting, promising, which led many to walk away confidence that something was going to be done and it was! You have shaped our communities in a positive way and we are grateful for your hard work and dedication! We will not except nothing less than the best for our children, property and lives because of you! You showed us how to reach for nothing but the best! Thank you Emma Darnell RIP!

I met Ms. Darnell sometime during the late 60's at a Hungry Club forum. She clearly and unapologetically spoke her mind about issues affecting people, especially senior citizens. She never wavered from this stance.

May her soul rest well with our Lord.

As a fellow Atlanta/Fulton County Library Board member in the 1990s, I learned much from her regarding preparation and engagement. Although I did not always share her views, especially early on, I have freely shared what I learned from her with my grandchildren in full knowledge that they will carry on through the years as a legacy gift.
