Emma Erlene Escobedo Robles, affectionately known by her family as Emmita, passed away in Visalia on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the age of 77.
She was the oldest of thirteen children born to Sabino and Trinidad Escobedo on November 24, 1938 in Villanueva, Mexico. Emma was raised in Brownsville, Texas, and graduated from Texas Women's University in Denton in 1961. She returned to Brownsville and married David Robles in 1963, and they welcomed four children. She was an elementary school teacher for 27 years. Following her husband's sudden passing, Emma and her children relocated to Visalia in 1988 to be near her family. She worked at various local preschools prior to her retirement. She was a member of Praise Center Church in Visalia for the past 28 years and was regarded as a faithful prayer warrior who had no shortage of love and warm hugs for everyone. She will be greatly missed.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Cynthia Robles, and two infant brothers. She is survived by her children, all of Visalia: David A. Robles and his wife, Suzanne; Raymond Robles and his wife, Marcy; and Emma Olivas and her husband, Martin. She was a doting grandmother to ten grandchildren, ranging in age from 29 to 4: David Richard Robles, Johnathan Robles, Stephen Robles, Ashley Olivas, Rebekah Robles, Marcus Olivas, David R. Robles, Victoria Robles, Kathryn Robles, and Emmalise Robles. She was a great-grandmother to 6-month old Maximus Robles. Emma is also survived by ten siblings: Rod Escobedo, Eloise Johnson, Edie Camarillo, Sylvia Escobedo, Arthur Escobedo, George Escobedo, and Judy Escobedo, all of Visalia, Raul Escobedo of Bakersfield, Sabin Escobedo of Livingston, and Richard Escobedo of Lakewood. She is also survived by many, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10 at 10:00 am at Praise Center Church. Burial will follow the service at Visalia District Cemetery. A memorial tribute may be offered by logging onto www.salseranddillard.com

My condolences to the family of Emma, she and I graduated in 1958 from BHS and then after we went to college we taught together at El Jardin. She was a lovely person and a good friend,we had good times at El Jardin School.After she left to California we lost contact, but I often thought about her and wondered how she was doing.I will miss my friend.May God be with all her family today and always.Always, Frances Garcia Muniz

My love and condolences to all the family. Emma was the first spiritual mama that i had when i first started attending Praise Center in 1996. She always prayed and encouraged me to trust God and for that i am thankful. Will miss her beautiful smile and hugs.
