Emma Escobar Verceles

Emma Escobar Verceles passed away on January 20, 2025 in Vallejo, CA surrounded by her husband Florencio and daughters Florema and Lucia. Emma Escobar was born on June 17, 1934 to her parents Lucio and Guadalupe Escobar in Cebu, Philippines. After moving to Cavite, Philippines she met Florenico Verceles, Jr.; they were wed on July 8, 1955. Emma went on to have three children in the Philippines: Florema, Florito, and Lucia. As a spouse of a member of the United States Navy, Emma and her family relocated to the United States in 1964.

Emma faced the challenges of moving to and raising a family in a new country and leaving everything she knew in the Philippines behind. It was difficult to say the least being a stranger in a strange land but Emma persevered, just as she had done throughout her entire life. A fourth child, Robert, was born in Long Beach, California during this time. After assignments in Point Mugu and Alameda, California, Florencio retired from the U.S. Navy in 1975 and Emma and her entire family moved back to the Philippines. Emma eventually returned to California in 1983 and lived in Vallejo, Long Beach, Lakewood, and finally settled in Vallejo where she spent the rest of her later life.

In her free time, Emma enjoyed crochet, watching TFC, and spending time with friends and family. Emma especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she proudly doted over and spoiled every chance she got.

Emma is survived by her husband Florencio, daughter Florema, son Florito, daughter Lucia, son Robert, sons-in-law Charles Miranda and Alejo Bueno, daughters-in-law Rose Marie Verceles and Nora Verceles, grandchildren Angeli, Richard, Charles, Joshua, Gabrielle, Michael, Marguerite, Mikaela, and Annika, great grandchildren Arielle, Zoe, Adrian, Israel, Roman, Duke, Cruz, and Mila, four sisters - Caridad Solis, Lourdes Pagtakhan, Julieta Escobar, and Virginia Escobar, numerous nephews and nieces, and a multitude of friends. Emma, Mom, Mama, Grandma, Lola Emma, G Ma, GG Ma, Mommy Em, Auntie Emma, Aling Emma - you will be so greatly missed.

There will be a viewing on February 6, 2025 from 3 pm to 7 pm (Vigil at 5 pm) at Skyview Memorial, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo, CA. A mass will be held at 11 am on February 7, 2025 at St. Basil the Great, 1200 Tuolumne Street, Vallejo, CA followed by a reception at the Coal Shed, 850 Nimitz Drive, Vallejo, CA from 1 pm to 4 pm.
