Emmett N. Roden

Emmett N. Roden, 81, of Florence, Ala., died Monday, June 10, 2002, after falling from a ladder. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.He was a native of Florence, Ala.He is survived by his sons, Emmett III, Chevy Chase, Md., and Russell, Florence, Ala.; daughters, Ann Garza, Chicago, Ill., and Janet Simonet, Melbourne, Fla.; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Lindsey, Tuscumbia, Ala., and Ruth Nell Boyer, Farmville, Va.; brothers, Robert Edward, Florence, Ala., Paul William, Deltona, Fla., and Walter James, Nevada City, Calif.; and grandchildren, Angela Klug, Melbourne, Fla., Jonathan Simonet, Orlando, Fla., Michelle Roden, Silver Springs, Md., Lily Roden, Chevy Chase, Md., and Raymond Garza, Chicago, Ill.He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett N. Roden Sr. and Mattie Lou Roden; and his brother, Perry Lee.He was employed as a lawyer in private practice. He was educated in Florence public schools, University of North Alabama and University of Alabama Law School. He served during World War II with the Air Force and served as circuit judge and as municipal judge in Lauderdale County. He also served as a board member of ECM Hospital and Florence/Lauderdale Public Library and was former commander of American Legion Post Number 11.
