Erhard Beitelspacher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2006.
Bowdle - Erhard Beitelspacher, 91, Bowdle, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at the Bowdle Nursing Home. His Funeral Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, with Pastor Susan Carr and Pastor Robin Wanner-Schaunaman officiating. Visitation will be at Miller Funeral Home, Bowdle, from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Sunday. Erhard Arand Beitelspacher, son of Christina (Schumacher) and John J. Beitelspacher, was born July 14, 1915, at his parent's farm in Walworth County 12 miles southeast of Java. This is where he was raised and attended rural school. Following his schooling, he stayed and helped on the farm. He married Minnie Haux at Aberdeen on April 6, 1947. They lived and farmed at Erhard's home place until Nov. 1, 1997, when they moved into Bowdle. Erhard farmed well into his 80's, in spite of being critically injured in a tractor accident at age 24. Since October 2003, he had resided at the Bowdle Nursing Home. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, and served on the Church Building Committee. He also served on the Farmers Union Oil Co-op board and was active in the Bowdle Sportsman's Club. Fishing was his favorite hobby, while attending livestock sales came in second. Erhard will be remembered as being somewhat ahead of his time in keeping up with the changing agriculture technology. Erhard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Minnie Beitelspacher of the Bowdle Nursing Home; one son, Leroy (Carla) Beitelspacher of Bowdle; two daughters, Lonita (Paul) Biedler of Chandler, Ariz., and Cindy (Lyle) Schock of Bowdle; one brother, Cleo Beitelspacher of Oakland, Calif.; six grandchildren, Ryan Kilber of Chandler, Ariz., Jeb Schock and Brandon Beitelspacher of Bowdle, Emryl Schock and Colin Beitelspacher of Sioux Falls, and Brent Beitelspacher of Gettysburg; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father on July 19, 1978; his mother on May 21, 1976; five brothers; two sisters; and two infant children. Online condolences may be left at MillerLienFH.com. Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle is in charge of arrangements.

I was very sorry to hear of Erhard passing, I will always remember him as an outstanding farmer. I got to meet him many times at livestock auctions and I think he enjoyed being around people in the livestock business. My deepest sympathy to the Beitelspacher Family.
