Eric was such a powerful force for decency, integrity and much-needed evolution in the clinical program at a time when there was a real battle for its soul. And Sandy, you were all of these as well. Eric was a heroic figure to me and so many other grad students. I was honored and grateful that he chaired my PhD committee. I am saddened by the news of his passing, and but comforted by knowing his legacy lives in the many, many former students whose lives he touched in meaningful and enduring ways. Sandy, I send a big hug and my hope that you are finding comfort in this time.

Speaking to Eric´s humility despite his tremendous accomplishments, as a teacher as well as a scholar who broadened my own clinical thinking and that of hundreds of other graduates of the program, integrating systems theory into all of our clinical thinking, I didn´t know two-thirds of what I just read in his obituary, or about his home being a refuge for refugees of the Nazis. He lived a long and rich life. May he rest in peace. Sandy, my sincere condolences to you.

With warm remembrance,

Drew

I join others is appreciating Eric's commitment to students, clients, and the field over many years. I was TA for his Family Therapy class and served on the executive committee with him when I was a graduate student in the 1980s. I deeply appreciate his humanity, his hard work, and his sense of humor. Thank you Eric for all you did and all whom you mentored.

warmly,

Kay Saakvitne, PhD 1986

Dear Sandy and family, I am so sorry for your loss. As a UM phd student I had learned about some of Eric´s impact on the program, but it wasn´t until reading the beautiful obituary that I learned the extent of his impact on not just the psychology department, but the Ann Arbor community, and nationally. A full and meaningful life indeed. You are in my thoughts during this difficult time.
