I am saddened to share the passing of Eric Dane, who left us at the age of 53 after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
For many of us, Eric was more than an actor - he was a presence. Through every role, he brought depth, authenticity, and heart. Whether on screen or stage, he had a rare ability to make audiences feel seen, understood, and moved. His performances were not only entertaining, but meaningful.
I unexpectedly had the chance to speak with him directly on Facebook before his page went offline. He got a real kick out of a photo I sent of my boss - they looked like absolute doppelgangers. I had served aboard the USCGC Boutwell as Chief Medical Officer, and we even talked about his dad, who had served in the Navy.
Even as he faced ALS with remarkable strength and dignity, he remained an example of resilience and grace. His quiet courage in the face of such a relentless illness reflected the same strength so many admired in his work.
Though his life was far too short, his impact will endure - in the stories he told, the characters he gave life to, and the countless fans who found comfort and inspiration in his art.

I grew up watching Eric Dane on Grey´s Anatomy and Private Practice, and later saw him bring such depth and intensity to his role in Euphoria. He had a remarkable ability to portray strength, charisma, and vulnerability in every character he played. His performances were unforgettable and stayed with us long after the episodes ended. I´m truly grateful for the comfort and emotion his work brought into my life. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who loved him.

Deepest condolences to family and friends and all co-workers. What an addition McSteamy was to Grey's and all of us acknowledging his acting ability and personality. ALS is one of the most horrific illnesses I have ever witnessed as few years ago lost 2 family members. I am glad he did not suffer longer than he did. May this great man rest, pain free and in peace.
