Eric Rune Danielson

Eric Rune Danielson, 82, of Country Club Rd., South Yarmouth, and formerly of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, July 16th in the Windsor Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Center, South Yarmouth.

He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Nancy M. (Smith) Danielson; a son, Ronald E. Danielson of South Yarmouth; a daughter, Lisa Wester of Colchester, VT and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Richard S. Danielson in 1971 and his brother, Roy H. Danielson died in 2000.

He was born in Tyngstryd, Sweden, a son of the late Carl and Ester (Persson) Danielson, and came to the U.S.A. at the age of 2. His family settled in Massachusetts and eventually Shrewsbury became their home in 1936. He and his wife moved to South Yarmouth in 1978. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School.

In 1938, the Danielson family began a long tradition of growing and supplying flowers and garden plants. Eric and his brother Roy continued the tradition with the establishment of Danielson Flowers Inc. in 1958, a Shrewsbury landmark that continues today with the 3rd and 4th generation of family as owners and operators.

He was a charter member of the Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Shrewsbury, and a past president and member of the Shrewsbury Rotary Club. An avid golfer, Eric enjoyed his membership at Juniper Hills Country Club in Northborough for many years and the Bass River Country Club on Cape Cod. Along with his wife, he had traveled extensively.

A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. There are no visiting hours.
