BANGOR - Eric Allen Hansen died peacefully on December 31, 2015 surrounded by his family. Eric was born April 26, 1952 in Bangor, Maine to Sidney Allen Hansen and Nina Bowden Hansen.

Eric attended Bangor schools and studied business at the University of Maine. After a successful career in the retail industry, Eric began a second career as a correctional administrator for the State of Maine. Prior to his retirement he was Superintendent of Mountain View Youth Development Center and Charleston Correctional Facility. He was passionate about his work. MVYDC was a model nationally for its progressive and restorative approach to the treatment, education, and care of at risk youth.

Eric was an avid fisherman. He treasured his fishing trips with his brother and friends. He was a devoted son, father and a beloved "Bumpa" to his grandchildren.

Eric is survived by his mother, Nina Hansen of Bangor; daughter, Erica King and husband, Roy; son, Joshua Hansen and wife, Sorrell and two grandsons, Josiah and Jonah King all of Portland, ME; sister, Cynthia Reid and husband, David of Bangor; brother and best friend, Joel Hansen and wife, Gayle of Hermon. He was fortunate to have a loving extended family, dear nieces, aunts, cousins, and treasured lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his father Sidney Hansen

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 6 PM at Brookings and Smith, 133 Center St, Bangor, ME. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. Bangor, following the service.

My deepest sympathy for the man that hired me at MVYDC. I am forever grateful for the support you always gave me and the school that was there at MVYDC. Also for the times you would just stop in my classroom and chat when you had some many other things you could be doing..

I had the pleasure of working w/ Eric when he was on the Region III Children's Cabinet in Bangor as part of his Mountain View DOC work. He was the NICEST person in the world, and I loved him. So very sad to hear of his passing. What a great guy. Peace be with you.

Cindy-sorry to hear of your brother's passing. Seems like it was just yesterday you were telling stories about Erica when she was only 4 or 5. So sad, especially for your mom. Thinking of you at this time. Betty Simpson

I attended school with Eric from Kindergarten to graduation in 1970 from Bangor High School, and he was one of those people that you were always happy to run into throughout the years. He will be missed by everyone that ever knew him. I hope the family can find comfort in knowing that Eric was so well thought of.
