Eric was very active in the US-China relationships for many years and he did carry substantial impacts both as a bridge and spokesperson by sitting on the Board of Directors of National Committee on US-China Relations for many years and I was invited to join the National Committee when Dr. David Lampton and Mr. John Holden were its President.
RIP Eric and I have just also learnt about the pass of Stanley Ho days ago in May 2020.

So very, very sorry to hear that your father passed away. He was a - forget the usual 'bright light' analogy - he was 4th of July Fireworks ... every day. Few other men who do work as serious as he did spread so much joy and are as curious about other people, places & circumstances as he was. He was often the most VIP of VIPs in the room but made sure that everyone, and I do mean everyone, felt special and enjoyed their time around him. I was 1st introduced to your father in East Timor, a few months after he and your mother had brought a very large ship - the international community having used up all of their patience when it came to protecting the East Timorese - a very large ship to Dili so that they themselves could assist hundreds - as many as could fit on to that boat - East Timorese to safety. I met with him a few more times in Dili, Hong Kong, & then NYC to talk about refugee issues and how and who - off the grid, like the Hotungs did - could be called on to assist when govt and int'l community are too caught up in themselves and politics to do so. Although nobody is quite as generous & truly thoughtful as he and your mother have been, His legacy is often referred to & continues to inspire other philanthropists to 'raise the level' when it comes to refugees, people displaced, people in imminent danger. Again so sorry, you must miss him very much.

hugely interesting man who did much philanthropic work and with whom i had the great pleasure of sharing wonderful conversations of times past Hong Kong when i popped into his office in Cosmopolitan building Central, Hong Kong. He had experienced the worst and the best of times. Treasured his insights and sharing. Cheeky and with a good sense of humour. RIP ERIC
