Eric Alan Limber

1962 - 2024

Eric Alan Limber, 62, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 7, 2024, in Brenham, Texas while visiting family.

Born on January 16, 1962, in Wilmington, Delaware, Eric grew up with a passion for helping others. He graduated from Newark High School in 1980 and began his medical career early, working at the Newark Emergency Room while still in high school. He drove the ambulance and obtained his EMT certification, setting the foundation for a lifelong dedication to emergency medicine.

Eric and his (former) wife, Karen, moved to California where they began their treasured family. They had two sons, Dylan and Shane, who were Eric's pride and joy. He enjoyed being a father above all else and loved working with the boys on various projects and the family vehicles. Eric pursued further medical studies while in California and became a registered nurse. In 1999, he graduated from The College of the Redwoods School of Nursing in Eureka, California. He went on to work as an Emergency RN, a role that perfectly suited his quick thinking and compassionate nature. Over the years, he formed deep friendships with his colleagues and found great fulfillment in the fast-paced environment of emergency care. Eric retired from Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Sacramento, California, in February of 2024 after decades of service to patients in need. He bought a small parcel of land in Texas and planned to live there and work the land in his retirement.

Beyond his professional life, Eric was a man of many passions. He cherished time spent with his family, especially his two sons, his sister, and his three nieces. He loved hunting, boating, and fishing - always eager for an adventure outdoors. Music was another joy in his life; he enjoyed attending concerts whenever he could. At home he took pride in making homemade jelly to give as gifts and grilling various meats on his smoker. He also had a talent for working with his hands - whether building something, fixing things, or tending to his land. Both his father, Dean Limber, and his Grandfather Bill Limber, were instrumental in teaching Eric these skills, which he, in turn, passed down to his own sons. Above all else, Eric had an incredible sense of humor and never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a hand or offer advice. Eric was someone people could count on, no matter the situation.

One of the defining moments in Eric's life came on October 1, 2017, when he attended the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada with several fellow nurses. When the concert turned into a tragic mass shooting scene, Eric's instincts as an ER nurse took over. He triaged gunshot victims in the field and helped others find safety behind trash cans, concession stands, and trees. His quick actions and skilled hands saved many lives that day. In the years that followed, he continued to meet with other survivors annually on the anniversary of the tragedy and was honored to reconnect with some of those he had helped to save. Las Vegas always held a special place in his heart because of this experience. In recognition of his heroism and connection to the city, Eric's family has applied to plant a tree in his memory at the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden dedicated to the victims and survivors of that tragedy.

Eric is survived by his father, Dean Limber; Sister, Valerie Kidd (Jeff); son Dylan Limber (Samantha); son Shane Limber; nieces Brittany Hale, Megan Cardwell, and Janelle Peterson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Dale Limber Kidd; maternal grandparents Mervin and Edith Dale; and paternal grandparents Bill and Helen Limber.

The family is researching charities that support victims and families affected by the Harvest Festival Shooting in 2017. Any donations received in Eric's name will be used first for funeral expenses and legal fees, and secondly for the fees associated with the planting of the memorial tree (pending approval from the City of Las Vegas). Any additional funds will go to a Las Vegas charity, to be determined, supporting victims of that tragic event.

Eric's legacy is one of kindness, bravery, and unwavering support for those around him. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched - both personally and professionally - and through the love he shared with family and friends.

Eric was a large part of our lives at Mercy San Juan. We were all shocked to hear of his sudden passing. He was so kind and funny and truly cared about his co-workers and his patients. He will be dearly missed. His infectious smile can still be seen in our halls. Please accept our sincere condolences, we all miss him. This donation was made from staff members from within our department. Thank you for allowing us to give to your father's memory.

I am Jan Kleinman, childhood neighbor of the Limber family. Eric was my brother Jack's best friend, and spent many years running in and out of our house. He frequently stayed for dinner with us. Little did I know at the time that he and Jack took full advantage of the different dinner hours in our homes. They ate at the Limbers first, then ate a second dinner at our house!

Eric was a huge influence on Jack's life. Because of Eric, Jack joined the Boy Scouts. Even though my family did not go camping, Jack learned outdoor skills and learned to love the outdoors over most other things. Thank you Eric!

One afternoon in 2019, without previous planning, Eric rang my mother's doorbell. She and I were both home. Though my mom's memory had started to slip, she completely remembered Eric. We had a wonderful visit! He recounted that music festival story, and we came to know what a caring and talented adult he was. Now, I am even more grateful that he rang Mom's bell that day.
