Eric Meddaugh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2024.
In the quiet twilight of a spring day, the world bade farewell to Eric Meddaugh, a craftsman of time and tide, who departed from our mortal coil on the silent night of April 26, 2024. On that evening, the stars above Santa Rosa, CA, where he first drew breath on December 12, 1953, seemed to dim in homage to the man whose essence was woven into the very fabric of life's rich tapestry.

Eric, a conjurer of laughter and a maestro of magnanimity, was a cool breeze that could soothe the fieriest of days. In the hearts of his beloved wife Annette, his steadfast brother David and kin, his progeny Katie, Robert, and Paul, and his cherished grandchildren Jennie, Jacob, Slate, and Grace, his spirit lives on-a Meddaugh legacy etched in the annals of jest and joy. Their patriarch, a sage of the toolshed, has joined the celestial ranks of his forebears, Jean and William Meddaugh, and Peter and Jennie Lazzaroni.

The tapestry of his youth unfurled through the halls of Sequoia Elementary and Montgomery High, and from there, his quest for knowledge was insatiable, a voracious gathering of wisdom from the founts of CSUC, SRJC, Silicon Valley University, Cañada, and Foothill Colleges. His academic odyssey mirrored the eclectic symphony of his musical delights.

In the theaters of technological innovation, Eric's name was whispered with reverence-a luminary among titans at Broadcom, Airgo, Clarity Wireless, Cisco, Lockheed, Watkins-Johnson. He was not merely present; he was the very current of ingenuity, a beacon of enlightenment, a pillar of triumph. The man of many talents also donned the mantle of Realtor and the laurel of a local bike shop artisan, his reputation gleaming like the polished chrome of a well-oiled machine.

Beyond the hum of diodes and circuits, Eric danced with the elements, a symphony in motion-skiing with the grace of a winter's gale, cycling in pursuit of the horizon, hiking in search of the earth's hidden verses, acing the courts with the precision of a poet's quill, and in the alchemy of his kitchen, he conjured the rhapsody of his grandmother's ravioli, a banquet of memories and love.

In the spirit of his boundless generosity, one might honor Eric's memory with a tribute to the Boulder Creek Recreation and Parks Department, a sanctuary where his passion for nature's canvas will forever bloom. Hospice of Santa Cruz County provided Eric with loving care, music and everything necessary to pass peacefully at home with his loving family. He would be honored if you wish to make a donation in his memory.

With Eric's parting, a silence has befallen the world, a vacancy no earthly endeavor could hope to fill. His life-a masterpiece of intention and design-echoes in the quiet corners of our being. And as he takes his leave from this, his final earthly commission, we whisper a tender "Ctrl-Alt-Delete." The soft hum of his existence may have ceased, but the memory of Eric Meddaugh is indelibly etched in the eternal scroll of our hearts, a sonnet of affection and admiration that time itself cannot erode.

We rode many miles together, and our best miles was the times we rode around Lake Tahoe. Every ride would give us joy and laughter. Eric will always be in my heart as a great friend.

I'm sorry to heart of your loss Annette. I'd only met Eric once during the Eroica Bike Ride in 2016. I was riding with a friend and we hooked up with Eric very early on and enjoyed our company and conversation the whole route. What a vintage bike nut! Just like us... We met you too, briefly after the ride for a bite to eat. What a sweet guy.

I knew Eric through our shared love of classic steel bikes, especially French ones. I rode most of an entire Eroica California ride with him in Paso Robles a few years ago on a lovely spring day . He was on his beloved Motobecane and was a delightful riding partner. Photo 1: Taken January 20, 2018, in Woodside, CA, at our annual Coppi-Dave Martinez Memorial Ride. Eric is on the far right.

I met Eric once with Annette In Visalia right after they were married! I had attended high school with Annette and our children attended a private Catholic school and we were some of the school moms working together on fund raisers. Eric gave Annette the beautuful joy she deserved and she gave in return. Annette I only have followed you on Facebook all these years and saw the love you both radiated to each other and everyone you come in contact with. May Jesus bless you and wrap his arms around you at this time of your loss. Much love, Robbie Sanchez

I never met Eric. However, his obit is one for the Smithsonian. This is the BEST eulogy I have ever read. He would be proud.

Perseverance. I was diagnosed with Lung Cancer just after Eric died. I always told him how much I admired him. He showed me how to have grace in the face of insurmountable odds. His middle name was Courage. He chose to keep living his life right up until the end.
