Eric Sharp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2010.
SHARP, Eric Thomas Veteran WWII November 21st, 1925-May 24th, 2010 Eric leaves to mourn his wife of nearly 60 years, Joan Beatrice Chilvers; his four sons, David; Danny (Josette); Stephen (Ingrid) and Jeffrey (Lyne); nine adoring grandchildren and three great grand children, who will only learn of his life and accomplishments in years to come; his sisters Edith Lane (Delbert), Patricia Lynch (John) and Priscilla Simard; Brother-in-law Ted Chilvers (Phyllis) and their families. Born of British heritage, Eric grew up in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Following his years in the Navy, during the 2nd World War, Eric returned to Sherbrooke to begin carving an astonishing career for himself in recreation, assuming the role of Saint-Lambert's first Director, Parks and Recreation, over 50 years ago. Eric Sharp's contribution to his beloved city did not go unnoticed, neither by the Federal government, receiving the Centennial Medal in 1967 for valuable service to the nation from Judy Lamarsh, then Minister of State, nor by the numerous youth of the late '50's and early '60's who to this day so fondly remember the variety of activities and programs that at the time had not yet become main stream. Recipient of numerous other awards and recognition for his work in parks and recreation, Eric was often asked to participate in forums where his expertise was needed. After nearly 30 years as Director, Parks and Recreation for Saint-Lambert, Eric Sharp became its Mayor in 1987 and as acknowledgement to his commitment to the City, was honoured by having the Saint-Lambert Arena named after him. Eric Sharp was a fighter and his zest and love of all sports, the good life and, above all, his family will live with us forever. God bless you and may you rest in peace. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Perley Rideau Veterans Health Center, Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, Donations to the Perley in Eric's name would be appreciated. Family will receive friends on Monday May 31, 2010 at the Beechwood Memorial Reception Centre from 11 am until Service time at 1 pm in the Sacred Space, 289 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, Ontario.

Dear Steve,
My sympathies to you and your family. I pray that, in appreciation and gratitude for the loving support and joy your dad brought to you and yours, his passing will soon raise your sorrow to a celebration of his life, with each special memory of times shared together. My prayers added to the many others.

My heartfelt sorrow goes to you Joan, Steve, Danny, Davia, and Jeff ( all childhood friends). Your husband and father will be sadly missed by many many souls. He was truly a great man, wonderful person, and as far as I am concerned was the best and most human boss that anyone could have worked for, both as a student and young adult.
My thoughts are with all your family.
