I first met my brother-in-law, Rick, in early 1963 and quickly realized that I had acquired a special friend. This was prior to the time that he received a call up from the Navy and he was still a small contractor building, tennis courts, swimming pools, and submitting bids for asphalt contracts. Vietnam reared its ugly head and a change of occupation was required. From that time on our personal interactions were brief and infrequent, but always became a treasured part of my memories. For all our lives, we were both keen and inept golfers, and on our infrequent forays we always enjoyed matching our lack of skill.
Over the years I followed Rick`s career from afar, confident that his work ethic and skill would be rewarded appropriately. Rick was just not only a true navy professional. He was also a family man. His large and expanding family adored and respected him, and I had evidence of this when I last visited in February shortly before he departed. This visit will remain an enduring memory for the rest of my life, his will to live, and that ready quip that so defined him.
Excuse an oft quoted line which has never been so apt,
And the sailor is home from the sea.
Roger Gardam.

Dear Hope & family: my deepest sympathies to you on Rick´s passing. Although I know you know this I´ll say it anyway. Rick was without a doubt one of the finest individuals I have had the privilege of knowing. Always the consummate professional, he positively impacted my life in general and those of countless more. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely, Dave Thomas, former colleague.

I worked with Rick for years after he made the transition over to the private sector. He was a natural leader, an honest man, and a wonderful person. I loved his one liners and his wry smile. I am a better person for knowing Rick, and the world has lost a great guy. Fair winds and following seas.

I met Rick in Vietnam and subsequently we were both stationed together in Hawaii. When Susan and I were married, Rick and Hope adopted both of us and made Susan's transition to being a Navy wife much smoother. Rick was always a great guy, and filled with great advice for a junior CEC officer learning the ropes. God Bless you, Shipmate...

Captain Wilson was my Skipper in Yokosuka when I was an Ensign; he and Hope showed a tremendous appreciation of the Japanese culture and workforce and were enthusiastic leaders of the Wardroom. His reassuring manner and clear guidance when things went wrong were great examples for me. I´ve always been grateful to have served for him and appreciated his and Hope´s kindness and support.

Rick was such an inspiration for me as a young junior Officer in Casper, WY. He was funny, compassionate and a great counselor for me in life and the military. Prayers for his family. Mike Fosdick

Sincere condolences to the Wilson family.
Rick was the CO of Chesapeake Division of NAVFAC and my boss when I served as the Chesdiv Planning Officer.
Rick was a wonderful commanding officer, a professional, and a true gentleman. I thoroughly enjoyed working for Rick and learned much under his leadership.
Best wishes and sympathies to Rick's family.
