I am deeply saddened to learn of this tragic news. Erick was a year ahead of me in school. During my freshman year at Belleville East, he would give me a ride to school. This may seem small, but for a guy that didn't have a car, riding to school with Erick was pretty darn cool. I will be thinking of him and his family. May they find some peace.

It has been a long time since I had the pleasure of Erick's company. I was deeply saddened to hear that he is gone. I knew Erick from Belle Valley and Belleville East, he was a unique and sweet guy! I have lots of Old Lincolnshire memories of Erick that won't be forgotten. You are all in my thoughts and prayers! Peace Be With You, Nikki Stampehl

Erick was one of my first friends when I moved to Illinois in the eighth grade. He was a genuine guy that everyone knew and liked. One thing I always said about Erick was that "he never met a stranger." He will be missed and my prayers are with his family.

I went to highschool with Erick and ran into him now and then when I came back to Belleville. As everyone has said, the thing I remember most about him was his kind heart and wonderful smile. Erick, we will remember you always.

To Erick's family: May God see you through this. Remember, Erick will always be there with you. When I lost my mother this poem gave me peace and I hope it will for you as well.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

Dear Linda,
Unimagineable. In a time like we have found ourselves in we desperately seek to find the words that will comfort you. There are none. What, then, do we console you with?
Before we are born we are not seen. When we leave this Earth we are not seen. For a short time we are present among those that we form a loving bond with. When they are gone, especially when they are suddenly, tragically, violently, and unfairly taken from us, we must rely on the unseen for comfort. The words, flowers, memorials, gifts of food, and more will temporarily ease the intense pain. But it will be the unseen love and support that comes to you that will hold you up in your most trying times. Remember what we teach in school about nouns being persons, places, things...and ideas. We teach that those things cannot be touched but that they are real. Our love for you is real, Linda. Our grief is real, our anger is real, our sorrow is real. You must lean on the unseen pillars of faith, hope, trust, belief, and a host of other "ideas" that will guide you through this darkest period of your life.
You were always the strongest model as a teacher. I admired you tremendously. Now you must apply this inner strength to face the great trials ahead. You will do it. We believe in you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Shepheard family. I have known Erick for about 5 years and the world has truly lost a great man. It only was a few days ago, Dec. 27 to be exact--when I stood outside my warehouse after we loaded a ton of dog food on Erick's truck. And yes Erick, I will get that fork lift fixed.

Linda,
my heart breaks for you with the loss of your beloved son Erick-such a devasting loss--I have no words. This was sent to me when Denny died and I hope it brings you some measure of comfort:
And if I go, while you're still here... know that I live on, vibrating to a different measure-behind a thin veil you cannot see through. You will not see me, so you must have faith, I wait the time when we can soar together again, aware of each other. Until then, live your life to it's fullest. And when you need me, just whisper my name in your heart,
....I will be there.
God Bless and Be with you Linda and your two little grandsons.

Linda (Mrs. Shepheard),
I'm sorry to hear the horrible news. My family sends our deepest sympathy.

It seems like yesterday that I was in your kindergarten class and that Erick and I played together often after school. There are some things that I will always remember about being at Belle Valley and having him as my "first best friend" certainly sticks out. It was also great seeing Erick and catching up with him at our 15 year high school reunion. Somehow it made me feel like we were 6 years old again. I remember going home to tell Mom and Dad that seeing Erick once again was one of the highlights of that evening. He will also be remembered with a smile.

My deepest condolences to Keaton, Tanner, Linda, Jean, Nancy, and the rest of our family. Erick will truly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. We will all miss his smile and his energy for life. Although he left this world too soon, I know that we will see him in the eyes of his sons. This all seems so unfair, the world was truly a wonderful place with him in it. I can hear his contagious laugh, and picture his ornery smile. We will all deeply miss him. I know he will be watching over his children that he loved so deeply. May he rest in peace.

Close your eyes now my longtime friend, and let this time come to a peaceful end. We'll hunt together soon, I'm sure, as winter turns to spring when snow gives way to budding leaves and birds begin to sing. The gentle breeze shall call your name along the water's edge. For what we shared and what you meant shall never be forgot. Your friendship spans the years behind your memory ahead. You'll always be there next to me companion and good friend.

To you, Erick, you were one heck of a friend. I will never forget the good times we had running the dogs.

May your memories always stay close to my heart!

I moved away for a couple of years and when I came back to Belleville he welcomed me with open arms. As we got older we didn't see each other often, but whenever we ran into each other it was like time had remained the same. I will always have a special place for him in my heart. Monica

There are days of soccer,65 LeMans's that bring a lot Erick to my mind. The times of showing him what to do on the soccer field, to helping him overhaul his Pontiac.
