How strange that today I am starting a new chapter in life again. I know you would be so proud of me and supportive. I love you so much and wish you were here to celebrate with me. There will be a place set for you tonight at dinner, pizza and memories abound.

Erik, I am writing this to you. I know you see it all from Heaven, but I just wanted to tell you how proud we are of Julia, Leif and Astrid. It hasnt been an easy year for your family, but they have grown together and honor your memory daily. You wife is probably one of the strongest women I know. Im honored to call her a close friend. Your children are AMAZING human beings. They are kind, gentle, so funny, smart and strong. We miss you, Erik! Love and Peace, The Starkey Family

Erik was one of a kind. He was gentile, kind, and always a loyal friend. Had some great times with him on ski trips to Colorado. He was a good friend and a character.

We are so sad to hear of Erik's passing. Vacationing in Maine for so many consecutive years and always staying at the Birch Knoll Cabins afforded us the opportunity to make wonderful friends with other families who shared the same weeks at the cabins. I first remember Erik as a little boy who was probably 4 years old at the time, along with his little sister, walking past our porch on their way to their grandparents' cabin further down the line. Erik's blonde hair was almost white! "WT", but we didn't come up with that cute acronym then. He was so shy, he looked straight ahead. Wow, memories crowd my head. Watched all the children grow up in the context of those 2 weeks in August annually. We spent hours on the beach talking about the weather, food, what would become of everyone as time progressed? This sad outcome in Erik's journey, no one would foresee, but when I read the tributes, including Andrew's wonderful letter for Leif and Astrid, it's obvious that Erik made the most of the time he did have and what a remarkable man he grew to be. He is so missed by many.

Most sincere sympathy to Julia, Leif, Astrid, Wes, Ellie, Kirsten and family.
With our love, Ian and Audrey

My condolences to Eric and his family. Our families shared many fond memories together at Birch Knoll cabins. We enjoyed trips to the Goldenrod, the arcade, the movies, playing the game Operation and of course our daily trips to the beach. We were all considered family and enjoyed eachothers company. I am very sorry to hear of Erics passing.

Erik was an annual summertime best bud as kids when our families vacationed together in Ogunquit, ME. He taught me how to body-surf, and I could never catch a wave the way he could. He was kind, decent, forthright. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, and my heart goes out to the entire Ertelt family.

Erik was on my first collegiate team I coached at Gustavus. A quiet, thoughtful, forgiving, hard-working swimmer who attracted friends easily. Interesting how one person like Erik can have a big impact on my life in how he instilled confidence in a young inexperienced coach. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family & friends of Erik.
