Erma "Jeanne" Tarbell, age 79, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, December 21, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Carl and Lelah (Stewart) Strickler on April 29, 1930 near Cincinnati, Iowa. She graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa in 1949. On April 1, 1951 Jeanne married Loal Tarbell at the Church of the Nazarene in Centerville, Iowa. Jeanne worked at Scott's Dime Store, Spurgeons, Beers Drug, Browns Grocery, Union Carbide and for six and a half years at St. Josephs Mercy Hospital all in Centerville, Iowa. She farmed with her husband for many years. Jeanne was very fond of her chickens, vegetables, and flower gardens, and loved to cook. She adored her grandchildren and family. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene where she was a Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher for several years.Jeanne is preceded in death by: her parents and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Ella Tarbell; sisters, Ruth Tucker, and Margaret Mitchell; brothers, Earl Strickler, Howard Strickler, Willard Strickler, Raymond Strickler, Kermit Strickler, Billy Strickler; brother-in-laws, Elmer Mitchell, Bob Turner, Keith Frazier, and Orville Marlin, Delbert Tarbell, Mansel Tarbell, Ivyl Tarbell, and Truman Tarbell; sister-in-laws, Velma Strickler, Marilyn Strickler, Truis Turner, Florene Marlin, Wilma Strickler, Maxine Strickler, May Tarbell, Margaret Tarbell, and Eula Strickler. She was the last of nine children.She is survived by: her husband, Loal Tarbell of Centerville, Iowa; daughters, Marla and her husband, David Benton of Plano, Texas, and Lorraine and her husband, Jeff Wendland of Centerville, Iowa; grandchildren, Tara Belloma of Centerville, Iowa, Jeremy Belloma of Plano, Iowa, Scott Belloma of Urbandale, Iowa, Derrick and Brandon Wendland of Centerville, Iowa; great grandchildren, Riley Belloma of Centerville, Iowa, and Allie Belloma of Plano, Iowa, and one grandson yet to be born; and several nieces and nephews who were all special to her.Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 10:00 am with Pastor Walter King officiating at the Church of the Nazarene in Centerville, Iowa. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery North of Centerville, Iowa. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 from 1-8 pm with the family present from 6-8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa.Memorials can be made to the Church of the Nazarene and left at or mailed to the funeral home. We were so sorry to hear of Jean's passing. So many good memories of Sundays at church, with Mom and Dad, Hodges, Miltons, the Williams family, your family, and many many others. Heaven is richer today isn't it. Keith & Nancy (Bryant) Sackett.
