Ernest Condon

CONDON _ Ernest Paul 1915 - 2007 Ernest Condon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the age of 91 years. Ernie was born on September 9, 1915 in Hora, Turkey (then Greece) and was a part of the post World War I expulsion of Greeks living in Turkey. He immigrated to Calgary at the age of six and was brought up by his older brother, Jimmy and sister-in-law, Maria. Ernie worked in the family restaurant, "Jimmies" and later married Irma (nee Ioanidis) in 1945. He was a good provider, supporting the upbringing of their four children through his tireless efforts in the restaurant business. Ernie's passions were his family and serving his customers, which led to a large group of friends and acquaintances that will feel his absence. He enjoyed sports, his annual fishing adventure and his friends, most recently the circle he developed while at Wentworth Manor. He is survived by his children, Maria (son-in-law Dennis Crete), Esodia, Jim (daughter-in-law Pat) and George; grandchildren, Robyn, Trisha and Brady; as well as his sister-in-law, Evelyn and brother-in-law, Connie. He was predeceased by his wife, Irma; his brothers, Demetrios (Jimmy), Orestes (Rusty), Gregory, Chrisostomos (Chris); and sisters, Christina and Eyanthy. Ernie's Funeral will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (1 Tamarac Crescent S.W.). Prayers will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. at LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME (17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.). Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens immediately east of Calgary on Garden Road and 17 Avenue S.E. The entire family would like to thank all the tremendous staff of Wentworth Manor, Father Dimitrios Rougas of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, the caring doctors and nurses at the Rockyview General Hospital, particularly Dr. Donald Cook, as well as the staff of Leyden's Funeral Home.
