I worked for Ernie for over 10 years back in 80’s and early 90’s. He was the best boss I ever had! Always good humored and willing to teach. I have always missed him since leaving dental school in 1995. Rest In Peace Ernie, you will never be forgotten. Take care Emily.

My condolences to Emily and family on the loss of a very fine man. I knew Ernie at the UT School of Dentistry. He was a mentor and friend, always willing to explain things to me in terms that I could understand. He was a kind man, a fun man, usually very upbeat and with a solution to problems. Rest in peace!

Uncle Ernie, as I called him, was my Godfather and truly was like a second Dad for me. He and Aunt Emily let me live with them in Spring, Texas when I began my career out of college. He was there for advice when I needed it. He introduced me to different types of food and cultures. He always had entertaining stories of their worldly travels. He and Aunt Emily went out of their way to rescue me and my two girls when my vehicle broke down outside of Beaumont, Texas late one night. Uncle Ernie was a great man; one that I always admired for his knowledge, hospitality, and generosity. I will miss him dearly.

I am so sorry to hear of Ernest's passing. I know that he is well loved and will be sorely missed. The Lord will take great care of him now.
The last time I saw Ernest was at my brother Joey's wedding. He had a dead pan look on his face and ever so often he would say some of the most hysterical comments and make observations that were so funny. I couldn't wait to hear what he would say next!
Love to you all.

Emily, I am sorry for your loss. Ernie mentored and taught me so much about my job and its true responsibilities beyond what was written down. He provided for so many people, he provided for me. He gave me confidence when mine was shaken, he provided me life lessons and experiences that I never forgot. He gave me an opportunity. A single opportunity that paved a way to a career, that led to a way to have and provide for a beautiful family. That opportunity allowed me to continue my families long connection with this wonderful school, UTSD, and be apart of its accomplishments. I will forever be grateful for his kindness and mentorship. Rest in peace Ernie.

Uncle Ernest always had good stories and conversations. Him and Aunt Emily took me and my family in their home for 5 days when we broke down in Houston on our way to San Antonio for vacation. Without hesitation they drove us around Houston and gave us a vacation we didn’t plan but was a blessing in diguise.

Ernest was my older brother by four years. He and I had always got along very well. He always looked after me. He was a very kind hearted person. He took good care of mom and dad in a lot of ways. He was a good son to them. He was smart as a whip. He did very well in all of the schools that he had attended- St. Joseph's, Ponchatoula High and Southeastern Louisiana University. He had a very full life due to all of his travels and in working in Europe for a period of time. I will miss Ernest very much. We had become closer in later life and we were able to converse quite often and talk about old times, etc. Lucille and I also began cruising together with Ernest and Emily. We enjoyed traveling with them very much. I know that Ernest is in a better place now with mom and dad in heaven. He will no longer have to suffer with the pain caused by his Prostate cancer. God bless and look over Ernest in your Kingdom of Heaven.

Ernie was my oldest brother. I have so many memories of him over the 70 years that I have known him. Being my older brother, I looked up to him in many things. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. His family was very important to him, and he was very supportive of our parents. He generously had them come visit him while he was living in England, and he went with them Rome to visit the Vatican. My parents never forgot this trip and were so thankful to Ernie for making it happen. Because of the 12 years difference in our age and his moving to Europe for 10 years, there was a time that we were not as close as I would have liked. I am happy to say that over the past 7 years I got to know Ernie better than ever and had the opportunity to visit him in Spring TX and he visited at our home in Hammond LA several times. We spent many hours remembering the history of our family and the major events in each of our lives. I was fortunate enough to talk to him often during the course of him going through his terminal illness. He will be missed by me and my family. We love you, Ernie!

Ernie was my father. He taught me all of the things I needed to know to become a man. He taught me how to fish, he taught me how to water ski, he taught me how to shave, he taught me how to tie a tie, he taught me how to drive, he taught me how to maintain a car, he taught me how to cook gumbo. Those were lessons taught with words, but he taught me so much more through his example and the way he lived his life. He taught me the importance of honesty, the importance of a strong work ethic, devotion to family and friend, and the importance of being ethical. He was always on my side even if he didn't agree with me. He took our family on the adventure of a lifetime and made sure that we wanted for nothing. He held his father in his arms when he died. Although he was never shy about sharing his opinion, his true strength came through his tenderness and his unwavering loyalty. I'll never forget how excited he was when my son, Louis, was born. He chased the steel cart carrying the new baby down the hallway snapping pictures, but what struck me the most was the expression on his face when he saw his new grandson. Love, pride, awe and wonder. I miss my daddy dearly, but carry his name forward with love and pride, knowing that he has escaped the pain and trials of this world, but that all of his deep love endures in the next.

Ernie was such a staple to our block. His wit and great sense of humor was enjoyed by all - always had a smile and we can still hear that laugh! He will be missed greatly at our block parties. Our prayers go out to Emily who with Ernie demonstrated a true love story! Our condolences to the entire Delaune family. What we have lost here on earth will be a wonderful addition to heaven.
