My husband and I had the great honor of being his neighbors in the Kari Glen Apartment for just about a year, back in 2010-2011 or so. Our friendship with Burt was a great blessing to us. Many times he would knock on our door with hands filled with groceries of all kinds. For a young family. We were deeply blessed by him. He would share his steaks with us on numerous occasions. We would often sit in the living room and listen to his big band favorites. I remember one thanksgiving after we moved to a different location...he came and dropped by our house to wish our son a happy 2nd birthday. He gave him a sweet card with some rolled up $2 bills. He also came back by several months after that with a full thanksgiving meal to share with us the day before thanksgiving. He would often bring by fresh sliced deli bacon and we would fry it up and share some BLT's together over kindred conversations. My son who is now 9 used to refer to him as a papa. We haven't seen him in a very long time. But boy does he live in our hearts still...with tears I searched for his name, out of curiosity to see where he was now. And it seems like he is in the best place possible. I am saddened to read this...yet so very happy. Burt was a very special person to our family. We will cherish all our moments we spent as his neighbor, and friends.
