BUSBY - Ernestine Two Moons, 68, longtime Busby area resident, passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010.
Mohonoone'e (Pawnee Woman), a descendent of the Cheyenne Chief Dull Knife, was born Jan. 18, 1942, in Lame Deer, a daughter of Ruth Yellowrobe and Ernest His Bad Horse Evans. She was raised in a traditional manner by her grandmother Alice Dull Knife Seminole. She grew up and received her education in Busby and later studied early childhood development at Rocky Mountain College and MSU-Bozeman.
She married Matthew Two Moons Sr. on April 9, 1959, in Sheridan, Wyo., and the couple lived on the Spear O Ranch, later Busby and finally at their home on Ash Creek. She adopted numerous children.
Ernestine was a teacher for the Headstart program for many years, was a matron at the Busby Boarding School, served as a Cheyenne bilingual instructor and most recently was a cook for the Busby School.
Ernestine was a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, Kit Fox Society, Prayer Lodge, and faithfully served on numerous Northern Cheyenne boards. She participated in numerous Sun dances. She was known for her preparation of dried meat and her beadwork. She loved to sew and cook; however, she relished the time she could spend with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her parents; daughter Marvena; grandsons Josh and Brian Two Moons Jr.; her sisters, Violet Bearchum and Halo Hisbadhorse; brothers Donlin Manybadhorses and Elwood Evans; niece Lara Bigback; aunt Alice Wallowing and uncles Waldo Yellowrobe and Robert Bailey preceded Ernestine in death.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Matthew Sr.; her daughters, Marty (Rob) Town and Billie Beth (Allen) Two Moons; her sons, Macklyn (Fern), Brian (Chris), Morgan, Wayland (Carly) and Matthew Two Moons Jr.; her sisters, Sharlene and Farrell Evans, Marcelene (Charles) Littleoldman, Lenora Wolfname and Linda (Steve) Brady; her brothers, Rudy, Charles and Duane Evans, Lloyd (Helen) Yellowrobe, Hank, Gary and Rick (Janet) Wolfname; her adopted children, Sean, Alvera, Phillipe, Arnold and Myra; her aunts, Martha Wolfname, Bernice Mast, Wanda Russell, Dolly Hiwalker, Marietha Holland, Emaline Gleason, Marie Medicine Bull, Julitha Little Bird, Barbara Spang, Pheobe Spotted Elk and Inez Spotted Elk Wilson; her beloved grandchildren, Ernest, Macklyn Jr., Quincey, Benji, Monte Jr., Kevin, Wayland Jr., Stitch, Jonah, Ashton, Sage, Talitha, Lil' Marty, Sunny Jean, Fellyn, Selena, Josha, Karristen, Bear and Shilo; her great-grandchildren, Colton Lee, Carl, Corbin, Kaleb, Cole, Janisha, Josiah, Tommy, Collette, Alazay and Buddy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. If we have missed anyone, please accept our apology.
Traditional wake services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in the Busby School Gymnasium. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in the Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Two Moons Family Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
