DEAR PAULA AND BALLESTEROS FAMILY, OUR DEEPEST AND HEARTFELT SYMPATHIES GO OUT TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU IN THE LOSS OF YOUR HUSBAND AND FATHER. "DR B " WAS A WELL KNOWN AND VERY GIFTED NEUROSURGEON, HE SOON BECAME "UNCLE ERNIE" TO OUR FAMILY WHEN HE MARRIED MY SISTER PAULA IN 1981. IT WASN'T LONG BEFORE WE REALIZED THAT HE WAS ALSO A VERY GIFTED COOK. HE SOON BECAME THE "FAMILY CHEF" FOR ALL THE HOLIDAY GATHERINGS, PIG ROASTS AND PARTIES. PAUNSIT WAS THE DISH. HE MADE SURE WE ALL HAD ENOUGH TO EAT, AND COOKED FOR 2 OR 100 PEOPLE. THERE WAS ALWAYS PLENTY AND HE LOVED IT, EVERY MINUTE. HE OFTEN TALKED OF OPENING A RESTAURANT WHEN HE RETIRED, I THINK HE WAS TO BUSY COOKING FOR ALL OF US. I THINK HE MAY HAVE COOKED FOR THE QUEEN? HE WAS VERY PROUD OF ALL HIS CHILDREN AND THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS, JUST SEEING HIS YOUNGEST SON JON GRAD. FROM UMO A FEW SHORT WEEKS AGO. OUR FAMILY LOVED HIM LIKE A FATHER AND GRANDFATHER AND HE LOVED EVERYONE, HE WAS GENUINE, GOOD AND KIND TO US ALL. HE WAS A BIG PART OF OUR FAMILY AND WE ARE THANKFUL TO HAVE KNOWN HIM. WE HAVE MANY FOND AND HAPPY MEMORIES AND PICTURES TO ENJOY AND REMEMBER. HE WILL BE SADLY MISSED BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN. THE GREAT BALLESTEROS CHEF CONTINUES ON IN EACH OF YOU. ENJOY LIFE, LAUGHTER AND KEEP COOKING AS HE DID, YOUR DAD IS WITH YOU ALWAYSL!!!!MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL IN THIS DIFFICULT TIME WITH OUR LOVE AND PRAYERS A. JOY AND U. HARRY

Dear Mia, Paula & family,
So so saddened by the death of Ernie. Mia, it was so good of you to stop in with your busy schedule to just "talk" about things. We've all had so many fun times over the years. Remember on the slopes at Sugarloaf when Ernie had a dress shirt and tie on under his ski clothes. We made some wonderful runs with he and Paula that day, as he was cussing about his new skiis that he had gotten for Christmas. "I don't like these GD Phings!" And then the night that his birthday celebration ended up at the Bounty. . .he was just too cool! Rick & I will forever hold him dear in our memory and pray that all of his family can continue in this life and live it to the fullest as he did. Though he will be greatly missed, he truly is present in all of you.
Our sincere sympathy and God bless you all.
Love, Cecile & Rick Beaulieu

Dear Family,
First let say how sorry I am to hear of Dr. Ballesteros passing. I met him as an eight year old child when he operated on my mother for a brain aneurysm at Eastern Maine Medical Center in 1968. She was given a twenty percent chance of pulling through that operation, which thanks to the wonderful abilities of Dr. Ballesteros, she did. It has now been 40 years and she is still alive and has been able to see her two children grow up and also to meet her 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. My Dad always knew that Dr. Ballesteros was a brilliant man and surgeon and I have to agree. My Mom was in the hospital for three months in 1968, I never saw or met Dr. Ballersteros after that, but have thought about what he did for my mother many times over the years. I have never forgotton what he did .

"Dr. B" was by far our favorite customer. His smile and laughter brought us all up to his level of spirit. He always spoke with great pride you could see in his face and hear in his voice whenever he spoke of Michael. I know you will miss him but take solitude in he touched so many people and will always be fondly remembered.
Very Sincerely, your friends

We are so sorry to hear of Dr. B's passing. He operated on my mother (Marge Paine) twice over a period of 13 yrs. for brain tumors. He did a wonderful job, gave her a new lease on life and she absolutely loved him. I met him also and knew he was a wonderful man. My mom died 8 yrs ago but whenever I saw Dr. B in traffic (he was easy to notice because of his vanity license plate) I would always think of Mum and how much she loved Dr. B.
To the family of EGB our heartfelt condolences to you. He will always be remembered and missed.

My sincere and heartfelt sympathies to Dr. B's entire family. Dr. B saved by brothers life years ago and with his vast knowledge and his superior use of new technology gave us hope where very little had been given to us when this dreaded day arrived. My husband and I always enjoyed bringing my brother to his annual check-up with Dr. B and we were always amazed that this awesome Dr. would take the time to "chat" with us once the official visit was over. God Bless You all.

My deepest sympathies for the family of "Dr. B". He was a special person and an excellent doctor. He had such a big heart. What doctor would take such interest in his patients as to invite them to his home and cook for them. He did for my mother and I after he operated on me in 91. He spoke about his family all the time and showed pictures of his skiing trips and loved talking about his flowers. He even took a trip into Aroostook County to visit with us and see our flower gardens. That shows what a kind and caring man he was. He will be greatly missed by us all.

You are all the courage, hope, love, knowledge and strength needed to go onto the next life. Ernie, we are ALL holding your hand.
Love...and a tight grip :o)

When I was 12 years old back in 1972 I went through a large window. I was in pretty bad shape and should have lost my right arm. Not only did Dr. B save my arm, I was able to lead a normal life. We were very poor and did not have a lot of money, but he did not ask for a dime. I owe a lot to him. God Bless you all.

Dear Lisa, Michael (Samantha), Tina, Mia, Paula and all the rest of Dr. B's family,
I was shocked and saddened today as I learned of Ernie's death. I loved Dr. B! Some of my fondest memories growing up are of my time spent with you,Lisa, and your family! Dr. B was the best! It took me a while to understand his version of English, but I knew his laugh anywhere! Ernie was one of the kindest, warmest human beings I ever had the pleasure to know...his cooking talents were second to none and his sense of humor and laugh highly contagious. Everytime I saw him (over the years) I would remind him of my name and he would ALWAYS give me a big hug and say, "My dear Leendha, how wonderful to see you!" A genuine man who loved life and his family..there aren't too many Dr. B's left in our midst and your dad/grampie/husband will be greatly missed, but long, long remembered!
My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you embrace the love and memories you have for and of Ernie. God Bless
Love,
Linda

Paula and Family-
Dr. Ballesteros means so much to me and our family. Because of Dr. Ballesteros we had 17 more years with our father. When all other doctors told our mother that he was gone and to pull the plug, Dr. Ballesteros was the only one who said he would try and took my father back to surgery. He performed 6 brain operations with one of the procedures a VP shunt and removed half of his cerebellum to stabilize my father so his brain could heal. Dr. Ballesteros was there with my mother and father practically every night checking in on them for 8 months while our father was hospitalized. Even if he had already seen Dad during rounds in the morning, he’d still stop by to say good night before he went home to his family. Sometimes I’d walk in to visit and Dr. Ballesteros would be sitting there next to Dad showing pictures of his children or bring his boys in and sit them down on the bed to visit.
Because of Dr. Ballesteros our father came home to rehab, taught himself to read lips and learned how to walk again. Our Dad was able to see 6 grandchildren play basketball, football, soccer, softball, and field hockey. Our Dad held in his arms 4 new great grandchildren, and spent 17 more years with the love of his life, our mother.
We are a small immediate family of 26, I can’t begin to tell you how much we love your father and husband; Dr. Ballesteros.
I know Ernesto and Lyman are catching up in heaven and we will see them again one day. Our hopes and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. May you find peace.
God Bless.

My love goes out to you Jonny and your family, and all the many others whose lives were touched by EGB. There are no words in expressing my sorry of Dr. Ballesteros passing. He was a wonderful, and very caring man. He operated on my mom many years ago for brain surgery. I'll never forget his handing patients in his office. He loved to talk, and discuss Brewer politics, with me while the patients were waiting in for his office. I would say, there's many people waiting to see you.. he would just wave his hand, and shun them off.. they would be next. He was a great guy..Sorry..
