Ernst Kurt BOX Remembering the Life of Ernst Kurt Box February 18, 1917 ~ August 16, 2008 Age 91, passed peacefully in his sleep at home on August 16, 2008. Born in Schneidemühl, Germany to Martha and Karl Box on February 18, 1917, he grew up loving the outdoors, hiking the Alps and sailing the Baltic Sea. He married Margot Wenzel also of Schneidemühl, Germany on March 4, 1941 and became a Stuka Pilot during World War II. Ernst escaped from the Russians and then rescued his wife and two children from a Russian Work Camp prior to the end of the war. The family immigrated to America in 1952 and made Seattle their permanent home. He worked as a machinist and tool and die maker until his retirement in 1982. He instilled his love for the outdoors in his children and grandchildren with many camping and hiking trips. He loved to travel, work in his garden and was an avid reader. Ernst was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ewald and sister Margaret. He is survived by his wife Margot of 67 years; his children George (Sandra) Box, and Gudrun (Bert) Gegner; grandchildren Michael (Kristen) Box, Deborah Box, Karen Box, Brigitte Gegner, Christopher Gegner and great-granddaughter Kyla Box. Celebration of life will be on Friday, September 5th at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery (700 West Raye Street) in Seattle at 2:00 p.m.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
