I met Erwann at the race track, sky, his girlfriend, was my childhood best friend and he quickly became a part of my life. This week has been so hard but I have found small comforts in the good memories. When I tried to follow him to a restaurant after skys graduation and he made us violate so many traffic laws that we couldnt stop laughing. When I moved into grand valley and he made sure to bring guy friends because he didnt want me to move in without extra hands and most of all our conversations, the times when he would call me or text just to talk about life and be there as a true friend always was. My prayers are with the family and these memories and many more are in my heart.

To Erwann's family: My heart felt sorrow for your deep pain of the passing of your beloved son Erwann....
Erwann is missed by many! I met Erwann at the race track in Hazel Park from his girl friend Skylar.
We worked together with the horses getting them ready to go race. It was a pure delight to know him. He was a kind, young man.

I met Erwann in middle school. He was always so kind and willing to help out, even if he didn't know you. He was the kind of person you felt comfortable being around. Granted him and I hadn't spoke since early high school, I can only imagine the impact on all the people he had met in his college years, and everyone else in between. He was truly one of a kind.

Erwann and I met in middle school but didn't become close friends until our Freshman year at Grand Valley. I was happy that he was in one of my classes because he was very popular back in the day. Although the class was very boring he tried to make the most of it by writing funny little notes each day. One day he had told me that he was failing in his art class and asked for some help. I had fixed his current piece and he said the class was amazed at his growth in that one painting. He was kind, caring, and a great listener. In his short time here he was able to experience something many may never experience which is pure love. He told me to fight for that kind of love because it makes life so much sweeter. One of his goals in life was to climb to the top of Mt. Everest. I choose to believe that he is now at the top of that mountain in the clouds watching over all of us.

To the Basset and Dechen families, I am very sorry for your loss. Erwann always did a great job as a student athlete, he did hard things with a smile on his face, which was contagious. He earned my trust and respect and I am glad that I got to tell him this when I saw him at Lifetime. He will be missed. I wish you all the best in this difficult time.

My deepest condolences for your family. Erwann will be remembered for his amazing heart and a smile that could light up a room. I recall that sweet, kind second grader whose first language was French. He was proud of this. That year, Kenbrook hosted an International Reading Night and Erwann was the inspiration behind turning our classroom into a France reading room, complete with a 4-foot, wooden Eiffel Tower. That year Erwann promised to invite me to his high school graduation, and he made good on that promise. I was honored to see him walk on stage at in May 2016. When he earned his drivers license in high school, Erwann and his girlfriend, Skyler, would make regular visits to volunteer in my third grade classroom after their day was done in school. When he was home for a college visit, he also made visits. He was an extraordinary student, an extraordinary human being. I feel richly blessed to have known Erwann. He will be immensely missed.
