Ethel Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 11, 2008.
p>Ethel M. Adams, 92, of Pennsville Township, passed away at home on March 9, 2008, after a short illness. Ethel was the daughter of the late Edward S. McAllister and Reba McCarson McAllister. She was raised in Pennsville and attended Salem High School, graduating in 1932. She then went on to Glassboro Normal School (which became Glassboro State College) and finished her studies with a Masters Degree from Temple University.

She began teaching at Deepwater School and then became principal there and at the old brick Pennsville School. From there, she opened both Central Park School and Valley Park School. She retired from her administrative career in 1976 after 41 years of service. Ethel was loved by the many students and teachers she came into contact with over the years.

Ethel was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the New Jersey Education Association. She was a former trustee of Salem Community College and was active in the Soroptomist Club. She taught adult Sunday School for many years and was extremely devoted to her church, Trinity United Methodist Church in Pennsville.

Ethel is survived by her daughter, Judy Adams Karr, and her husband, Frank; her grandson, Kevin Mulhern, his wife, April, and her beloved great-granddaughter, Georgia, all of Pennsville. Ethel was predeceased in 2001 by her husband, George, to whom she had been married over 58 years, at the time of his death.

During her later years, her caregiver and best friend, Anna Meadows, was always there for her.

Ethel enjoyed reading, traveling and caring for Kevin. She was always proud of her students and could remember so many of their names that it was almost uncanny.

When Ethel was a principal, she was always active in the Parent Teacher Organizations.

She will truly be missed by her family and everyone she touched over the years.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13 at the LAUGHREY FUNERAL HOME, Pennsville where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at the St. George¹s Cemetery, Pennsville.

Because of her love of education, the family suggests contributions be made to the Pennsville Educational Foundation, 30 Church Street, Pennsville, New Jersey 08070.

Mrs Adams will always have a special place in my heart. I remember playing in the sandbox in her back yard when I wasn't more than six. While she was Principal of the Pennsville School things were always done the right way. I will miss her

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. You were my 6th grade teacher at Penn Beach School(Class of 88) and I reminder you as a wonderful person and from what I read about your mother, she was just a wonderful. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I know how it feels to lose a mother no matter what age and it is hard but God will help you through it.

To the Adams Family. I remember Mrs Adams from both the Deepwater School, and then the Pennsville School. I attended Deepwater Kindergarten-first, then was moved to Pennsville for second through sixth. She was a kind, caring women, and I am sure she will be missed by many. May God comfort you in this time of sorrow.
