Shirley Anne Garrett entered this world December 19, 1930, in Erick, Oklahoma, to the home of Walter C. and Bonnie Robertson Garrett, she became the bride of Charles H. Lassiter August 14, 1948. She was a wonderful wife and a wonderful mother for 73 years.
Shirley entered heaven on Saturday, April 2, 2022. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Walter and Bonnie R Garret, her sons, William Hillard Lassiter III, and Lonzo L. Lassiter, as well as her brothers, Jerry and Walter Garrett and her sister, Charlotte Tignor, as well as a son in law, J.M. Fuqua. She is survived by her husband Charles H. Lassiter, a sister, Opal V Goble, children: Anne Lassiter, DJ (Lonzo) Lassiter, Darlene Jenkins (Bob), Stanley Lassiter, Katy (Pat) McIlwee, Bobbi (Steve) Brooks, Kerry Zane Lassiter, son in-laws, Dewayne Williamson, and David Smith, as well as 13 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Shirley graduated Mountainair High School May 1948 with honors and a scholarship to UNM. She married Charles in Bernalillo, NM. She was an accomplished seamstress. She was very active with the Republican Party and served as secretary for Curry County Republican Party for several years. She worked several part times jobs as her children grew up in her home. She worked with the U.S. Census. She was a Stanley product representative and conducted numerous doors to door and telephone surveys and she was the secret shopper at several local stores. Most days you could find Shirley with a book or her bible in her hand. She was an avid rock and shoe collector, she loved to can vegetables and bake delicious cakes, pies, and cobblers especially for her family. She mimicked Euell Gibbons with her natural food tendencies and utilized her native American roots in herbal remedies. She was a wonderful wife and mother; she will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Clovis, NM. Pastor Tyler Hicks will be officiating. Bob Jenkins, Steve Brooks, Patrick McIlwee, Joshua Brooks, Jerad Brooks, Jacob Brooks, William McIlwee, and Timothy McIlwee will serve as the pallbearers. Stan Lassiter, Kerry Lassiter, Sean McIlwee, Chris Williamson, Jason Fuqua, Thomas McIlwee, William Springer, Jed Wasson, Steve Heininger and Andrew Montoya will serve as the honorary pallbearers. Shirley will be laid to rest at the Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Lonzo Lassiter Memorial Scholarship fund at ENMU, Portales, N.M.
