Ethel Thomas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2024.
It is with heavy, but comforted hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved Mema, Ethel Thomas, who left us on November 26, 2024, at the age of 89.

Mema, our beloved matriarch, was a guiding light for our family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. Her life was a testament of what commitment and loyalty are to look like. Married for 71 years to her husband, Daniel Thomas, they raised five children in whom she took great pride. She instilled in them, and all of us, the love of Jesus and a passion for caring for each other. Mema made LEGENDARY Thanksgiving dressing and biscuits that I am convinced will never be topped. I will always remember her home as one filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of her cooking. However,...never touch her pots!

She was a woman of faith, with an unwavering belief in the power of Jesus, love, kindness, and family. She was epitome of grace and strength all of her days.

Mema was one of the sweetest, most caring women I have ever known. I am so grateful for all she taught me, from cross-stitch, to biscuits, to what being a Godly wife and mother looks like. I pray we are all able to continue passing on Mema's traditions to our children and families and will teach them all we have learned from her.

Though Mema has left this earth, we take comfort in knowing she is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, free from pain and surrounded by His everlasting peace. Mema, we will miss you more than words can say. Your love and devotion have shaped our lives in ways we will never forget. Rest in peace, Mema. You are forever in our hearts.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, 24315 NW County Road 1493, Alachua. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Burial will follow the service in New Hope Cemetery.
