I stumbled on your CNN interview on You Tube. You are both the essence of class and love. You help us all understand better. You are excellent parents and I can see why your son has fulfilled his call to serve. None of us know how long we have, but just do our best for the time we have. Your son did so much in so few years. You were so clear in your interview and definitely made it clear that the most important thing is that your son is remembered. You were so real and nonpolitical and so impressive. I can't imagine your pain, but I heard it in my heart. I prayed for you when I watched. I pray for your healing and that God touch you now. I send you all the love of my heart as a mother. God bless these fine people in every way.

Mr. & Mrs. Murphy,

I learned about your tragic loss yesterday. As a fellow bereaved mom, my heart goes out to you. There are no words I can offer to take away even a drop of your pain. I do want you to know that one lesson I learned on this grief journey is that our children will never be forgotten. Your son is a hero. He fought for our freedom, and freedom is not free, but paid for in the blood of our brave men and women. It breaks my heart that you had to lose your precious son.
I wish I could do more for you. The only thing I can offer to do is to publicize his name, and to help his memory live on. It WILL live on. He will NOT be forgotten.

I am eternally grateful to you and your family for the sacrifice you made. May G-d bless you, comfort you; and may you only have peaceful, happy memories of Etienne.

With much love, Leah

Mr. & Mrs. Murphy, our deepest condolences and support are extended out to you. Your moving interview on CNN stirred my soul. Your son, Etienne, will not be forgotten. His honorable service to all Americans (and global citizens) in the fight against terror has protected us and touched us as a nation. May his legacy, and the legacy of all fallen heroes, be kept close to our hearts and minds. God bless you both, your family, and his many friends. Etienne's patriotism and service, along with your love for him as parents, will guide me, my family, friends, and all college students I am fortunate enough to teach. Much comfort, love, and support to you both.

Mr. Calvin Murphy and Mrs. Sheila Murphy,
My heart grieves for you. I am so sorry for the loss of your precious son Etienne. I am so thankful for the service he gave to our country. His sacrifice is not lost. God knows everyone and sees everything. Etienne is in a special place in heaven with our Lord. Although he has been taken from you now, and I agree it is too soon, God must have needed him in heaven for a special purpose. My greatest prayer now is for you and your husband to be able to cope with your grief and eventually heal. I don't know why terrible things happen to good people. I wish we had the answer. All I can do is pray. Please know that I will be praying for you and now that we know about you and your son, thousands in America will be praying for you. God bless you.

Just saw your video on CNN. I am in tears for you and the terrible grief you are experiencing that I cannot even imagine. God bless your family and give you peace that passes all understanding. Thank you for your son's heroism and sacrifice. My two boys are also in the military and all I know is when I was sitting thinking about them I heard the small voice tell me, "I've got him." That's all we can do, is give them over to the Lord. He is a handsome young man. You are admirable parents and I know he was an outstanding person just by hearing you speak. Remember, God keeps His promises and you will see your son again.

Mr. and Mrs. Murphy I watched your interview today and saw two people with beautiful hearts.
I wanted to take a moment to let you, your family, your sons wife and his children know how much I appreciate each of you and all you have sacrificed for my family, our country and myself.
As a parent I know the fear of your child not coming home, my eldest son was deployed to multiple war zones six times, but I do not know the pain of that fear coming true.
You raised an honorable and courageous son. I will be praying that your memories of him with his beautiful smile and with the help of God you can somehow find comfort to make it through each day until you see him again.
Thank you, Hero SPC Etienne J. Murphy, Army Ranger, 75th Ranger Regiment, Bravo Company 1st Battallion, you will not be forgotten!

My heartfelt prayers go out to the entire Murphy family. I just watched your recent interview on CNN and have to say how well you stated how many of us who are Gold Star families. It has been 12 years since I lost my son and as you stated, the pain does not go away. I appreciate all the kind words that I have gotten from the family and from his friends but I am most touched when those who served with him, still reach out and tell me how they still remember him and what a awesome man he was. Please keep the faith and remember that even in death, good people have a way of reaching out and touching others lives and making a difference. Peace and God's blessings to your family. My heart was broken watching the CNN interview,I am so very sorry for your loss, grieving and loss are an ongoing process which never ends. I lost my grandbaby 3 yrs ago, she was 4, she was my entire world, I understand the deep inward groaning and ache of such a great loss. My body gave up, my mind couldn't conceive or process such a loss, I just wanted to be where she was, still do...It will be 4 yrs March 22, I have days when I can't stop weeping, the other days I stay in denial, thats the only way I have survived. I was so mad with God, I was mad at the World...My heart breaks for you and your family, I will not forget the sacrifice your son and your family has made for this Country. He was a man of great courage and strength. I pray for strength and peace and comfort for your family. God Bless you and Thank You for raising such a fine young man.

What do you say to a heart that is in a storm of anguish. To Mrs. Murphy, my brother was a Marine, he did his tour and was honorably discharged but seeing him in his uniform I gained a respect and admiration for the Armed Forces. Every soldier should come home but unfortunately that is not the world we live in.

Years have passed, I'm now in my 40's and a father of 3. I now know the love of being a Dad and understand the deep connection of a Mother to her children. I pray that your pain eases and that it soon turns to pride. Pride for that beautiful boy you've raised; realizing that the person he became was because of you.

I cannot even imagine what you are feeling. My understanding of pain has come through the loss of 2 of my closest family members to cancer but this is the loss of a child. They should bury us ...not the other way around.

Mother, may God give you His grace in such a time of need and pour out a blessing of love upon your house that never subsides, May the Lord bless you and your family.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:29-31

SPC Etienne J. Murphy is the epitome of what a man should be. I did not know him but he will inhabit a piece of my heart. I'm so moved by his commitment to family and love of country. And that SMILE! Special beyond words. Praying his family will realize it's not the years in ones life, but the life in ones years. He offered more in his young life than millions do in a long lifetime. Rightfully so very proud of your boy. Thank you for sharing him with us. You will meet again. Much love and prayers for you all.

I just watched a heartbroken mother and father speak of their brave and wonderful son Etienne. I'm simply a fellow American that benefits from the sacrifice given by this brave young man and as important, his family. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy, be proud of the wonderful son you've raised and know that no one could ever understand the pain you feel until they've lived it themselves. Know that your son's loss was not in vain, but also know that men like your son are and will always be greatly respected to the highest degree by a grateful nation.

God Bless your family.

Your noble son, husband, father offered his life in service to protect us all. I am just a grateful stranger who nearly died long ago in work of a different duty. As my end seemed inevitable, I remember still that my deepest feeling was sorrow for the sorrow that my young wife and baby daughter would themselves feel. But we all were spared. I don't think there is anyway to help you, but, if there is, let me know. Richard Hird, Kennebunk, Me, [email protected]

Mr. And Mrs. Murphy:

I was so very moved by your interview on CNN about your dear Etienne. I cannot fathom your pain but I want you to know what your son means to me-a complete stranger. Your son's memory is a beacon of the ultimate love for others, bravery I could never comprehend, and a selflessness I could not match. Please do not cry. Though I know your heart is broken, you raised a fine young man who did what he was called to do. Time may make things easier, but understand that we grieve the collective heroes that have our six under the umbrella of their protection of people, truth, and love. God bless you and I pray for comfort for you. I love you. Diane M Gamber, Lancaster, PA

Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice that your son, brother, husband and father made. I saw an interview with Etienne's mother and father and it is a obvious how much his family loves him. I will never forget him or his bravery and love for his country. Such a wonderful young man who was raised by amazing loving parents. He was blessed in this life to be surrounded by so much love. I appreciate him for fighting for the freedoms and safety of every single American for fighting against the evil in this world. There is nothing that I could say to take away your pain but I hope that it helps to know that regular Americans, like myself, have the utmost respect and appreciation for Etienne. He is a hero who will always be remembered. God bless your entire family, you will be in my prayers.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Murphy,

I am so very sorry for the loss of your son, SPC Etienne J. Murphy, while he was on a mission for our country. I truly wish I could take away some of your pain.

I can not fully express my gratitude for your son's service to our great country. He is/was one of the top 1% Of America; the finest of the finest. You both obviously raised a man of incredible valor, integrity and character.

My son is also in the military; the United States Air Force. Because of this, I feel like we have a very special connection, even though we have never met and are miles away from each other.

In your interview on CNN, you mentioned how divided our nation is. It is and it breaks my heart. Even though we find our country in this sad state of affairs, both our sons chose to defend the very freedoms that make our country great. They rose about all the division and the hate in this country. I feel like that makes them extra special.

Your son, SPC Etienne J. Murphy, Army Ranger, 75th Ranger Regiment, Bravo Company 1st Battallion,
WILL NOT be forgotten.

Thank you for raising such a fine young man. My prayers are with you.

Love in Christ,

Robin Cope

He is my/our hero. If you and yours ever need a big hug, to be loved on, come see me and mine.

No words can express the amount of gratitude my family has for the service and ultimate sacrifice of Etienne and all the brave men and women who give their lives for our freedom and for freedom all around the world. Sadly, nothing will bring him back. I hope and I pray that his entire family feels the warmth and love of God and that you would all find peace that surpasses understanding. That you would know that one day you will all be together again for eternity. In a place where there is no pain, suffering or death. That this is not goodbye forever. You will be together in paradise. I can only imagine your pain. I know there is a way to heal. You will never be the same but you can continue knowing that your son is waiting for you. Carry his light in this world! Keep sharing His light with others! Keep encouraging us to unify, to come together. I'm so blessed to have seen your message! I will not forget you or your son. You'll be in my prayers daily! God bless all of you! Mom, Dad, Wife and Chilldren, Siblings, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Friends and Comrades.

Like Etienne, we stepped up to serve our country knowing that the price of freedom isn't free; that giving our all, including the ultimate sacrifice was understood as possible. Etienne and so many others have made that honorable sacrifice for our country, for all the freedoms too many take for granted.

I sincerely hope that your church, military community, veterans organizations and Gold Star Mothers members will come to you to help you through this most difficult time.

Know that my thoughts and prayers will follow you where ever you go. Again, Etienne will not be forgotten. God Bless.

I used to skateboard with EJ at the Hyde Park skate park in middle school. He was always so friendly and kind. I am truly saddened we won't ever get the chance to catch up and talk Army. Rest In Peace to a true American hero.

I still think I'm dreaming. It sucks loosing you, a hero, a brother. We had classes together at SGHS throughout the year! You always kept me smiling and laughing! You were always smiling and never saw you upset! I saw you progress in ROTC and always motivated others to do well!

You was a role model I looked up to, a leader, a good father, a hero and last but not least an awesome person in general! You were truly a good friend.

We were just hanging out a few weeks ago with Josh. We went to the gun range then out to eat! I'm glad I was able to spend time with you through your busy schedule of supporting your family and making your dreams come true! Wish we could've hung out more but things happen for a reason.

One thing I'll never forget is your funny laugh, your awesome personality, and how you always worked hard for what you wanted! I want you to know that I'll always be here if your wife and kids ever needs anything. It was an honor to escort you on your funeral day! Prayers are sent to your family! Love and miss you bro! You'll never be forgotten Ranger! A hero gone too soon!

My condolences to Etienne's family. He was such a sweet young man. He and my son, Gerald, became friends years ago when his family moved into the neighborhood at Fall Creek. Gerald would spend a lot of time hanging out at their house and their pit bull. It's been some years since I've seen Etienne. But he will never be forgotten.

My love and prayers are with you Murphy family. I taught both Etienne and Martha at SGHS. I remember the last time I saw them. They came to visit and show me their beautiful baby. I am so proud of the man he became as I first taught Etienne as a freshman. He really did always have a smile on his face even when I was getting on him about playing around or not turning in work. He was so good natured even when I was butchering up the pronunciation of his name. For awhile I called him Murphy but eventually learned to pronounce Etienne. I will remember him with fondness and appreciation for his service to our country. My deepest condolences.
