Gene Barmer was my uncle, hero, and brother. He was much beloved by all who were kin to or new him. Believe me, Sergeant Major E.H. Barmer did much, much more than his part. He wiLL be sorely missed! ............ Roger Atcheson

Gene was a dear friend of mine for over 65 years. We grew up in Camden and I have spent many hours on the telephone with Gene laughing and talking old times in Camden, former friends from Camden and college football. I will miss talking to Gene but I know he is in a better place.

MARY ETTA,
I'M SO SORRY ABOUT GENE. I FIRST MET GENE IN 1964-65 WHEN HE WAS BEST FRIENDS WITH MY BROTHER BILL DEKLE AND I HAVEN'T SEEN GENE SINCE 2002 AT BILL'S FUNERAL. THERE WAS NEVER A DULL MOMENT AROUND GENE. I CAN'T REMEMBER HIM EVER BEING UPSET OR ANGRY. I ACTUALLY DROVE BY THE CHURCH ON ARLINGTON RD. LAST WEEK AND THOUGHT ABOUT YOU GUY'S VISITING WITH LIBBY AND BILLY.
HE WAS A GOOD PERSON AND FRIEND.

To the Barmer Family: Elaine and I send our deepest sympathy in the loss of Gene and to a family that we dearly love and respect. We spent a lot of time with the Barmer family and we have great memories of Gene and the family that we will carry in our hearts and minds forever. Gene would never speak about his military service, but he was a true war hero. We are greatly saddened by his loss but happy that he is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We look forward to the reunion someday.
