Eugene Francis "Gene" Busteed

Gene Busteed, 73, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on May 9, 2024. He was born on July 8, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri, to George and Loretta (nee Willmering) Busteed.

Gene, known for his love of the outdoors, was a man of science, trivia, and quirky art projects. Gene took a varied career path which kept him close to the things he loved. He held positions as a telephone lineman, soils laboratory technician, electrical lineman, environmental health inspector, and City of Columbia (MO) Arborist.

In his free time, Gene could often be found hunting, fishing, gardening, or playing with his dog, Diesel. He was passionate about eliminating ash bore trees to preserve the environment he cherished.

Gene is survived by his wife, Linda Hancik, stepson Joshua Hancik (Rosy Pittella), granddaughter Phoenix Floyd-Pittella of Miami, Florida, brother George Busteed II (Gerry Busteed) of Neosho, Missouri, two nephews and a niece.

No memorial services are planned for Gene. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital in his memory.

The Heartland Cremation and Burial Society in Columbia, MO, is assisting the family with arrangements during this difficult time.
