How I loved watching you perform. I had a Scottish friend who loved you just as much as I did. I remember he called me from New York and said, “You’re not going to believe who I saw perform tonight!” What a gift your music was. More than anything, it was your joyous presence. Everyone in a room where you were performing could feel it. I think some people are capable of changing you for the better. I’ll carry you with me. Always.

Uncle Eugene, I can´t believe 10 years have gone by without you here with us. I miss you everyday. You were always such a source of joy and comfort and laughter. Not to mention the music that lifted the soul. You were full of life and lived unapologetically, enthusiastically. That had an indelible impact on me. You were like a father to me and to Greg, who you welcomed to the family with open arms. He loved being with you. And a wonderful grandfather to the girls. Some of Meredith´s fondest memories are of her time spent with you. She so loved singing with you. I know you are so proud of both Erin and Meredith and how they have grown in to such wonderful women. We love you and miss you more than I can describe with words

Eugene touched every person he met in a special way. His love for his family and friends was undeniable. A great joy for Eugene was to share his love for his native Ireland through music. Ten years have gone by .....he will never be forgotten.

When the Harp & Bard of Danvers played and of course "beat" the Harp & Bard of Norwood, Eugene was our goaly and wore my goaly equipment. He never skated in his life. That was in 1971. What a nice guy, and true "Balladeer".

So sorry to make such a late entry for our old friend Eugene, we'd been out of touch in recent years, but always resumed a warm friendship on the occasions we did get to see him, & will miss him greatly! Yes, he's certainly joining a fabulous ceilidh of musicians on the other side! Lots of good memories to treasure old friend.

Please excuse this late entry in the guestbook. Please accept my belated sympathy. To be honest I never got to know Eugene very well. Have to say that whenever I did see him sing and play, whether on stage or just informally, he always looked like he was thoroughly enjoying it. There's an awful lot to be said for that, especially when you may not be feeling up to the task. I expect he's singing in the great beyond with all of the singers and players that have gone before, and maybe saving a spot for the rest of us when our time comes.

The memories of the trips and the time in Ireland with Eugene are true priceless treasures. My wife and I, along with many friends from the New Orleans area were truly enriched by our time spent with him. His songs still play in my head. His stories and jokes bring smiles and laughter. I will never hear an Irish song, have a pint of Guinness or a sip of Jameson without thinking of him.

Dear Maura and Kevin, friends and family,
I am saddened to learn about Eugene's passing. Playing the bass or guitar alongside Eugene was always a lot of fun, and it seemed that there was always some new wonderful song I had never heard before. There were a few nights that I worked with Kevin and Eugene where we produced some really lovely harmony vocals.
It's never easy to say goodbye, but I really feel that while we have lost a dear friend, we are blessed to have enjoyed so many pleasant times with Eugene. Let's all do our best to keep alive his love of life, generosity of spirit, and good humor.
Love,
Kate Griffin

Maura and Family,
Joe, Mary Ellen and myself send our condolences to you all. I know first hand the tremendous loss you now feel. Eugene built up all those he met, he always had something positive to say or add to those around his craft - the craft of which he was a Master. I am certain that Eugene will find a way to extend his generous Spirit even now, to build you up and get you past this terrible time. I share a measure of the loss you feel, because of the positive way he touched my life and encouraged me in the few times our paths crossed. You spent your life with him and in this you were lucky. Eugene will be in our prayers, as will your extended family. I thank you all for sharing him with us.
