NORTH ANDOVER — Eugene "Gene" Demers, 85, of North Andover, died on Saturday April 26, 2008 at Holy Family Hospital.
Gene was born in Lawrence on Jan 12, 1923 to Herbert and Clara (Marchand) Demers.
He attended Sacred Heart School in Lawrence and St. Joseph's in Haverhill. He graduated from Haverhill High School in 1941.
Mr. Demers Served in the United States Navy Sea Bees during World War II. He was employed at Lawrence Plate Glass in Lawrence until 1975. Gene managed Demers Plate Glass in Haverhill from 1975 until his retirement in 1987.
Gene was a member of Kawanis Club in Lawrence. He joined the Lawrence Camera Club in 1969 and was a member until 2003. Gene also belonged to the Greater Lynn Camera Club and the Photographic Society of America..
His greatest interest since the age of ten was photography and his favorite vacation place was Monhegan Island, Maine which offered him many opportunities for photography.
Gene was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mildred (Santore) Demers.
He is survived by his devoted wife, good friend and caretaker Josephine DiMauro Demers of North Andover; his four children, Wayne Demers and his.wife Nancy of Exeter N.H., Denise Milliken and her husband Bruce of Falmouth Maine, Irene Gosselin and her husband Daniel of Naperville III., Dana Demers and his wife Danika Kuhl Demers of Cumberland Maine; one brother Robert Demers of Salisbury; three sisters, Claire Santore of Londonderry, N.H., Virginia McCarthy of Milton, Nancy Potvin of Kensington, Conn.; 11 grandchildren and 17 nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St, Methuen, MA. 01844. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 196 Main St., North Andover, MA. 01845. Cremation will follow and Burial will be at a later date. Dear Wayne, Denise, Irene, Dana & Family:
I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I remember our fun days at Aunt Polly's pool with such fondness. She still has the giant photo of everyone, hanging in the cabana, that you father made for her and Uncle Tom.
