Eugene Floyd Fleming was born October 6, 1935, in Deleon, Texas, and died August 9, 2024.

Eugene, who went by "Gene," graduated from DeLeon High School in May of 1954 and entered Howard Payne College (HPC)in September of that year. He immediately became involved in the Baptist Student Union and Missions Volunteer Group.

In 1961, he continued his education and moved to Boulder, Colorado. He enrolled in the electrical engineering program at the University of Colorado. While seeking financial aid, he contacted Services for the Blind, which offered him a job as a rehabilitation teacher for the blind and visually impaired based in Grand Junction, Colorado.

After working from Grand Junction for two years, he was introduced to Phyllis Kingsley by mutual friends during one of his monthly staff meeting trips to Denver. She was teaching grade school in Aurora. They were married in the summer of 1964. They adopted a boy (David - 1971) and a girl (Anita-1969) in 1969.

Gene was preceded in death by his dear wife, Phyllis, whom he loved dearly. Phyliss contracted encephalitis in 1981 and passed away in January 2006.

Gene is survived by his Anita (daughter), John, and two granddaughters, Jessica, and Ashley. He is also survived by David (son) and Kim, with his granddaughter, Jazzy. He will be deeply missed by all who have encountered him.

Services will take place on August 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Cross Fellowship Church, 4808 Palmer Park Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO. Donations can be made to the Howard Payne Scholarship in lieu of flowers.
