I was very sad to see Courtney´s name listed among the deceased alumni in the Memoriam section of the Summer edition of the UVA Magazine. I remember Courtney as an outstanding athlete and inspirational teammate during our time together as members of the UVA Rugby Club. He was a fast and elusive runner who would likely have been a star on the Virginia football team had he elected to play that sport. Fortunately for Virginia Rugby and for those of us that we´re lucky enough to have played with him he was drawn to rugby where his uniquely gregarious spirit was allowed to shine.
My sincere condolences to his family.

Courtney's passing is unbearably sad. He was a brilliant all-round athlete and rugger. It was an honor to have taken the pitch with him. Yet he was so much more: a man of consummate charm, wit and humor. Who among those in the VRFC that toured Scotland and England in the Spring of 1970 will ever forget the magnificent manner in which he held forth in our hotel that Saturday night in Edinburgh after the Calcutta Cup besting the Scots (no mean feat) in their drinking games.
"Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave."
My heartfelt condolences to Courtney's family.
May he rest in peace.

So sorry to read of his passing. He taught me in high school. He would come in all bruised up and once with broken nose from playing rugby. I have often thought of him and wondered where he was. He definitely had an impact on all of us in the class. Won´t tell you my age but a long long time ago. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Courtney was one of those larger than life people that we are occasionally fortunate to meet and befriend. I have known him since college and fraternity days and cherish our friendship. Condolences to Deb, Erin, and the rest of the family.
