Gene was, certainly, at least, through our high school years, my father. He taught me how to play pool, how to eat calzone and how to save time.
He always supported our beat decisions with a calm confidence that we adopted. But I was always surprised at how, when he would decide to lose weight, he would drop something like 30 pounds in a week; his force of will - balanced by his love for family food - fuels me through this day.

Aunt Lucie, Glen, Paul, and Greg,
I was so sad to hear about Uncle Gene´s passing. Even though I didn´t get to see him often growing up, he still managed to be a big presence in my life. He had such a great sense of humor, and truly the best voice. I will always remember the Thanksgiving dinners in Sudbury. I´m quite sure it was there, under his tutelage, that I learned to play pool, a skill I put to use many times in college.
I found one of my favorite photos of him, at my wedding, pretending to sneak a taste of the wedding cake. I can´t prove it, but I´m quite sure he was the instigator of the line of men who also took photos "sampling" the cake, and it always makes me laugh.
I´m thinking of you all, and sending love. I hope good memories of Uncle Gene bring you smiles.
With sympathy,
Linda

Who doesn´t like onions? I don´t get it...but, I never minded serving them on the side or leaving them out of the recipe altogether because (even though it is weird to hate onions), Gene, when I blew my nose and people in the restaurant turned to stare at me (probably in my imagination), you not only said that I sounded like a honking goose...you made that sound like a compliment! I will forever cherish our batting cage time together and our plotting of how to generate client revenue or get a job, sharing deep discussions on "delta t" and process improvement. Thank you for understanding not to talk to me in the morning before I've had coffee. I am so grateful I had a "dad" to take my car to get new tires, call the exterminator, help me put up hurricane shutters, and all those sorts of DAD things. Glen is so lucky to have known you his whole life. We both miss you so very much. XXOO.

Thank you, Glen, for the update on your dear dad. I count my life's best friends on one hand. He is one of five. I worked for him. He was a marvelous coach. He opened career doors for me. Sharon and I came to love Lucie and Gene as "family." I remember Gene standing on his friend's exquisite wood-trimmed motorboat at the pier on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. He was suntanned and wore a sea captain's hat. In that pose, he reminded me of an actor in an old movie I loved: Anthony Quinn. As my "boss," he was MY beloved captain. Gene conveyed strength, firmness, vision, and compassion all at the same time. And, we love YOU, Lucie, and your fine sons. We send our most sincere sympathy at this time of your loss. Your zest for life will carry you through. With our deepest love, Darby & Sharon Checketts
