Rest In Peace, Mr. Pupilli.
You taught me self confidence and made me strong. You believed in me and made me a leader. I'll always remember you and how you shaped my life.
God bless, and thank you.

I'm so sorry I never got to tell him this. Mr. Pupili was the teacher who taught me the most important lessons I learned in High School. He assigned me to play the bass drum in the marching band. That meant I was in charge of the tempo. If I spaced out and slowed down the other 79 band members would follow me. I learned to focus and do the job well.

I'm so sorry I didn't get to say this to him, but he was the teacher who meant the most to me. He put me on the bass drum, which meant I was the one who set the tempo for the band. If I spaced out and slowed down the other 79 members would follow me there. I learned to focus and do the job well. No other lesson I learned in High School was as important to me.

He taught me to play the tuba when I was at Shaffer Elementary, and changed the whole trajectory of my life. I wonder how many other lives he improved by being the patient and talented musician and teacher that he was. R.I.P., Mr. Pupilli.

I remember Mr. Pupilli as the band director at Churchill Area High School. I was class of 1966 but not in the band. I got a chance to know him better after graduation through another faculty member, the late John McCormick. Gene was an affable and energetic teacher and lived life the same way outside the school. I did not know about his military service in combat in Korea. Thank you, sir, for your years in music education and for your service to our country. May you Rest In Peace.
