Loudon, TN

Eugene Whitney, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN died July 3, 2015 at age 82. He had a great life filled with travel, work problems to solve, and new endeavors to explore. During his employment years, he was a hard worker, a crisis manager, and a critical thinker. Even in retirement he remained an avid learner and interested in anything from rocks to all things Republican. He received a Master's degree from the University of Copenhagen on a Fulbright scholarship. He had an LL.D in law. He enlisted in the US Navy and served two years on a submarine during the Korean War. He worked in a lab at Case Institute of Technology in Clevleand, OH, was a vice president at TRW in the aircraft division, and was President of Pyromet, a company that made airplane parts. He was a pilot of small aircraft, a scuba diver, a fossil hunter, and a driver of long trips especially out west and to visit the family he loved.

He is survived by his wife Billie Berry Whitney; son Paul Michael Whitney; and daughter Christina Marie Whitney and her husband William Toomajian; as well as five grandchildren, Allison Claire Whitney, Megan Bodil Whitney, Joseph Paul Whitney, Rebecca Marie Whitney, and Karen Elizabeth Whitney. He was predeceased by his daughter Karen Margrethe and son Eric James Whitney as well as his parents.
