Eulas Barnett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 29, 2008.
For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

1931-2008

Eulas Arlon (Barney) Barnett, 76, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at his home, with Martha, his loving wife of 54 years, by his side.

A celebration of life and funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on County Road 71, near Lexington. Brother Jason Vincent, Brother Ed Marston and Brother Bob Carriveau will officiate. Jim Truitt will give a eulogy. Burial will follow in Butler Cemetery, with mulitary honors. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.

Arlon was a lifelong resident of Lexington, Ala. He attended Lexington High School. He loved playing baseball as a pitcher with the Goodmantown team. He was an avid Alabama football team fan, but enjoyed all SEC college football and basketball. He was treasurer of the Lexington Lions Club for many years. He was an avid fisherman until he was unable. He retired after 27 years of service at Reynolds Alloys Plant. He was an honorably discharged Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.

Arlon was a wonderful, kind, generous and compassionate man. He was a friend to all and would help his friends in their times of need with his expertise in electrical work and was known as a jack of all trades. Arlon was a lifetime member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He served as Sunday school superintendent and was a trustee of the church. He was a fine Christian who loved his church and church family. He went to church many times when feeling badly. He read his Bible daily and talked often of going to heaven and meeting his Lord. Arlon will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Our loss is heaven's gain.

Arlon was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Lena Pearl Thigpen Barnett; brother, Herbert Barnett; sisters, Levil Barnett, Leona Clayton Thigpen, Cleavie Barnett Simpson, Verta Barnett Barnett; and many other loving relatives.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Butler Barnett; brothers, James (Marvis) Barnett, Carlon Barnett, Center Star; sisters, Oneata Barnett Davis, Odean Barnett, Lexington, Elora Barnett Lewey, Sheffield, Elaine Barnett Butler, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews, greats and great-greats.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Davis, Jeff Davis, Bobby Smith, Ronnie Barnett, Tim Barnett and Tim Cornelius.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eulas Simpson, Bryan Butler and Condred Joiner.

Martha and her family want to express their heartfelt appreciation to his doctor, Diane McCutcheon, for her loving medical care and a special thanks to our church family for their loving concern, prayers, cards and support, and family and friends too numerous to name.

Expressions of sympathy may also be made in loving memory of Eulas Arlon Barnett to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, 8880 County Road 71, Lexington, AL 35648, or to the charity of one's choice.

Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.
