Eunice (Black) Weir Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 3, 2024.
Eunice Elizabeth (Black) Weir, formerly of Evergreen, Colorado, passed away on August 20, 2024 .

Born to Bertha (née DeMars) Black and Lawrence Daniel Black on September 14, 1938 in Rockford, Illinois, launching Eunice into her life's adventures as a whimsical child (nicked named Mike, by her daddy) always riding her bike and playing with her sister Judy and the neighbor kids. By the seventh grade, Eunice had met her husband, Silas Weir, who preceeded her in death, a relationship that spanned over 74 years (64 of which they were married).

Although our mother's life certainly helped build the foundation of our father's career that navigated the way for our family to live all around the world during our lives together, Eunice was the center of our universe.

It was our mother that made each move 'happen'. It was our mother that reminded us we were always going to love our next destination and learn much from our unchartered course. It was our mother that paved her own path of success from nursing, to business co-owner (with dear friend Roberta Bindas) of Chicago Ala Carte to real estate and later in life, obtaining her masters degree in counseling and was a part of the Grace Counseling team for over 20 years ultimately retiring at the age of 80. Eunice was constantly evolving, quietly so, even in her final days.

Eunice possessed an artist heart from her charcoal nudes to water colors to pastels, pottery and eclectic beaded jewelry all shown through her wildly creative mind. Her artist statement said it best in how she was continually excited and surprised by the "art spirit". Eunice once heard a wonderful comment from a painter that resonated with her creative spirit "paint like a man going over the top of the mountain singing."

In addition to her husband, Eunice is preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Bertha Black, her maternal grandparents, Sadie and Clyde DeMars, paternal grandparents Ada Clause and Lorenzo Dow Black; in-laws, Dr. Homer and Mildred Weir, brother-in-law George Walton Weir, Francis and Alice Weir along with several aunts and uncles including dear friend Tommy Rehwald. We would be remiss to not mention her beloved pups over the years, Jeffrey, Andrew, Max, and Mimi, all reunited with our mother, no doubt!

Eunice is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Weir (Don Stensrud), Pamela Graham (Terry), Susan (née Weir) Fischer, Christopher Fischer. Our mother was an awesome grandmother to Jason Graham (Michelle), Emma, Olivia and Samuel Silas Fischer and two great grand daughters. Eunice is further survived by her sister, Judith (née Black) Wennerdahl (Ron), brother-in-law, Frank Weir (Barb), sister-in-law Mary Weir, several nieces / nephews and dear friends Rae Ann Rehwald, Jan Kempler, The Histead Way Neighbors, Artists with Altitude and The Henderson Family.

Eunice has now departed for her next bold exploits, leaving us with the shatterproof impact she had on all of our lives by the manner in which she lived her life, the art she created and her strength to survive all that came her way, not to mention her outrageously witty sense of humor. We will carry on with her in our heart's and we will live our lives to our fullest in celebration of her of life and in her memory.

The family is very grateful for the love and care of Gita, Roji and Sonali, who without would have made the final year with our mother unbearable. Many thanks and gratitude to all of our Elevation palliative care / hospice nurses (Sandy and Doris) guiding us every step of the way.

A service will be held for both Eunice and Silas on October 5, 2024 at 9:30am, at the Greenwood Cemetery, 1011 Auburn Street in Rockford, Illinois.

Donations can be made in memory of Eunice to: The Foothills Art Center - Creative Campus 809 15th Street, Golden, Colorado 80401 and The Evergreen Animal Protective League, please call 303-674-6442 or email [email protected] for donation instructions, or to a charity of one's choice.

Please celebrate Eunice's life by walking up a mountain, singing. We love you, mom, Godspeed and farewell.

Eunice was an absolutely superb counselor to me and to my wife Sherry. We are better for Eunice having worked with us.

Boy my first memory was when I was 3 and went to dinner on wolf rd and she just was so wonderful to me. From that point on we were thick as thieves. She was the greatest grandmother a kid like me could ask for. She was so loving and energetic but funny as you could be. I have nothing but great memories of her and will cherish them always. I love you Grandma rest easy
