Eva Jane Castro
May 11, 1931 - August 28, 2017
Eva Jane Castro died peacefully at home on August 28, 2017 in Bakersfield, California at the age of 86.
Eva is survived by her husband of 68 years , Arthur L. Castro; only child, Sabrina L. Cornelius and her husband Kevin; grandchildren; Misty L. Caraan and her husband Danny, Kevin L. Cornelius Jr.; a great grandchild, Brooke L. Caraan; siblings, Jean Jones of Bakersfield, Jerry Clark of Bakersfield, Roy Reed of Bakersfield and Dwight Reed of China. She is preceded in death by her parents, V.G. and Laura Reed, her twin sister, Ivy Reed and other siblings Guy Reed Jr., Troy Reed, Lawana Giggy, James Reed, and Louie D. Reed.
Eva was born on May 11, 1931 in Ryan, Oklahoma to Guy and Laura Reed. Eva and her siblings grew up on a ranch in Sugden, Oklahoma where they farmed cotton. She came to California when she was 13 years old.
She met her husband, Art Castro in Bakersfield and they got married on March 5, 1949. She worked at Towne Photo shop for several years. This is where her love of photography grew. She became a full time housewife when she became a Mom in 1957 to their daughter, Sabrina. Her family remembers her for being their ornery mother and grandmother. She was known for being a straight shooter. When it came to her family, she was the mother hen. She was extremely loving, giving, and her generosity was abundant.
In addition to photography, her other interests included cooking, raising Golden Pheasants and Peacocks, gardening and cheering on the Los Angeles Dodgers. She was always able to make a great meal when family and friends came to visit.
In the early 1960's, she received a knock at her door that changed her life. She was visited by one of Jehovah's Witnesses and she began to study the bible. She was a dedicated baptized Jehovah's Witness from October 9, 1965 until the day she died. She spent several hours each month going from door to door to teach others about God's purpose for mankind.
In her later years, she suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Although difficult, Eva's faith and service to Jehovah never wavered. She continued to find joy and bring laughter to those around her. A special thank you to Hoffman Hospice; they provided care and support for Eva and her family. Brittany, Bonnie, Denise and Mari, you made a difference!
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 8501 Wible Road in Bakersfield with a reception to follow at Silver Creek Community Center.
She will be missed by everyone that came to know her as a friend, sister, wife, mom and grandma.
Revelation 21:4 "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

My condolences to the Castro and Cornelius Family. I grew up with this family, they adopted me like I was one of their own. Eva was always a graceful woman, full of love and happiness. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. I am sending out a special prayer to her only child, my Jehova sister, Sabrina Cornelius. May Jehova heal your pain as you will see your beautiful mother again. I love you all, Misty, Sabrina, Kevin, Kevin jr , Art and family. Stay blessed

What a huge loss for everyone whos life was touched by Eva. I will miss our conversations about tomato's and if she had a good year or a bad year. She was such a pillar in our congregation and an example of what a true Christian should be. She will be missed, but I look forward to growing tomato's next to Eva and talking to her if it was a bad year or a good year.

Such a big loss for everyone who knew Eva. I always enjoyed talking with Eva about tomato's and if she was having a good year with them or a bad year. I know it sounds silly, but its the simple things you miss the most. She was a pillar in our congregation and an example for us all. Cant wait to see her again and grow tomato's and talk about if she's having a good year or a bad year with them. My heart goes out to you all...

She had a smile on her face at the Kingdom Hall even when I knew she wasn't feeling the best. She will be missed, but for a short while, till Jahovah will bring her back new. Can't wait to see that, You are in our prayers, Hugs your way.
