Eva C. Lin of Provo/Orem, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010 due to a complication of sudden kidney and heart failure.
Eva C Lin was born as Xuan Chen to Dr. Shu-Da (Jue-Ren) Chen and Meg Wang
on September 29th 1924 in Beijing, China. Eva was raised in a well-educated and sophisticated family; many of her ancestors were high-level officials, well-known scholars, including well-respected national heroes in the Qing Dynasty’s Imperial Navy. Encouraged and influenced by the distinguished family culture environment, Eva always strived for the very best, graduated the top of her classes from schools, and earned her bachelors and graduating degrees in English Literature from St. John’s University where she also met her future husband and life-long companion, the late Dr. Robert Lin.
After graduating from college, Eva started to work for AT &T in the spring of 1948 as Area Supervisor, Zone Supervisor, Industrial Major Account Manager, Municipal Account Manager, and Director of Urban Business Development.
In 1978, by special appointment, Eva left the telephone company, became an Associate Professor at the elite East China Normal University in Shanghai, teaching graduate schools and conducting researches to help in completing the college’s English education system’s improvement, also, participated in translating and proof readings for many important United Nations’ documents as a U.N. certified senior level translator.
Eva retired from the University in 1989, moved to Utah with her beloved husband, the
late Dr. Robert Lin, to be closer to her son, Evan, who works and resides in Utah County.
Soon after moving to Provo, Eva and Robert (known as Bob) were recruited by Nu Skin
company; where Eva worked many positions, such as Blue Diamond Account Manager
and International Liaison, helped and contributed in developing the company’s U.S. Chinese Speaking Market; and the international Chinese speaking Market that included Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and China. Eva not only earned constant praises and trust from the Nu Skin company executives, but also won broad respect from many high profile top executive distributors and elite world leaders for her continuous efforts, enthusiasm, efficiency and honesty in her tireless work, support and service.
Eva retired from the full time position at Nu Skin in 2002, but returned as a part-time consultant after her husband, Dr. Robert Lin, passed away in April of 2005, continued her work of translating/proof reading company’s documents in English –Chinese; Chinese-English for Chinese speaking market, maintained contact with many high profile team elite members, helped on communication and ensured the further success of the company’s Chinese speaking market’s development, until June 2007 when Eva took a fall, broke her hip bone, then she struggled in recovery to regain her health back, finally, moved into an assistant living facility in 2009.
Eva had received many outstanding awards and citations in her life long achievements, included a certification from LDS church as an accomplished translator. Eva was a member
of Episcopal Church.
Eva will be greatly missed by many friends, former collogues, students and family members. Eva is survived by her son Evan (Patricia) of Orem.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 18th at Tribute Center (a.k.a. Walkers)
