Eva Szabo

In loving memory of Eva Maria Szabo Eva Szabo of Ottawa, Canada, currently residing in Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Monday, August 27, 2018. She was 84 years young. Eva was born in 1934 in Budapest, Hungary and grew up in Sopron where she established herself as a stage and screen actress. She fled her home country during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, eventually immigrating to Ottawa, Canada where she raised 3 children while pursuing a 35 year career as a graphic artist and photographer for the Department of Chemistry at the University of Ottawa. Eva always loved her work and her artistic flair came through in all that she did. In 2016, Eva moved to Ellicott City in Maryland to live with her daughter Andrea and her family. She loved Ellicott City with its mild winters and long spring and fall seasons, and often referred to it as the most beautiful place she's ever been! Eva's warm, charismatic, and vibrant personality had an immediate and lasting impact on everyone she met. She was most happy when she was around people, sharing in conversation and food. Eva was always positive, inviting, genuinely caring and gave selflessly to others. She had the ability to lift others up even when she herself was struck by hardship or ailing health. As a result, she was surrounded by love from everyone she knew, young and old, and from every corner of the globe. She will be missed dearly, but has left a part of herself in the hearts of everyone that knew her! Eva is survived by her 3 children, Judith, Andrea and Victor; sons-in-law Lars and David; daughter-in-law Sabrina; grandchildren Pascal and his spouse Céline, Olivier and his spouse Qi, Lara, and Xander; and great-grandchildren Amélina, Faial, and Félix. Eva will be laid to rest at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, Canada alongside her mother, Margit Toth. Memorial services to celebrate Eva's life will be held at St. Elizabeth Parish in Ottawa on October 6th, 2018.
