Eva Zanow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 10 to Mar. 11, 2007.
Eva Margarete Zanow, most beloved wife of Nicholas Zanow, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2007, at the Care Center of HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, due to complications of Multiple Systems Atrophy.

Eva was born on February 7, 1938, in Berlin, Germany, and emigrated to the United States at the age of 21. After her three children were born, Eva became one of only three women in the charter class of the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo, earning her M.D. degree in 1972 and working as a pediatrician in Ohio.

She married Nicholas Zanow in 1984 and they moved to Lafayette upon her retirement in 1997. Eva took up the clarinet as an adult and enjoyed volunteering with her husband at the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts. All who knew her were touched by her loving and generous spirit.

She is survived by her loving family: her husband, Nicholas; her children, Claudia Zornow, Roy Zornow, and Karen Zornow Leiding; her son-in-law, Walter Leiding; her "son-out-law," Donald Blasick; and her sister, Ellen Henking.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 11, at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 685 Inca Parkway, Boulder.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any tributes be made in Eva's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts, or HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, where she received extraordinary care during her final illness.

Dear Karen, Claudia, Roy and Families,

I am so sorry to hear of your mother's death. It is truly a very deep and personal loss to each of you and those who loved her and were loved by her. I see your loss in a different way now that I have lost my mother (almost 3 years ago) and I will keep you close in my thoughts and prayers.

Please take the time you need to sort all your feelings and decisions out. No one can rush you, or should even try.

And take care of yourselves and stick together as a family.

With deep sympathy and friendship,

Reema
