I just learned of Evan's passing and I'm without words. I only knew Evan briefly, from a visit to Syracuse that he helped make immensely engaging and grounded. I was impressed with his approach to food studies, his own work and dedication, and the humility he carried around his amazing and energetic work. I had looked forward to chances to work together and learn from and with him in the future, and returning to Syracuse to see what had progressed and been built even further since my last visit.

I can barely imagine the loss this represents to those who were closest to him, to his friends and family, colleagues, and community partners. My heart goes out to all of you and my deepest condolences.

Evan took me on as an intern for Syracuse Grows when I was a senior in college. He taught me so much about food inequality and gardening. I was lucky enough to be a member of the Westcott Garden throughout my undergrad and had the opportunity to work alongside him there. He was deeply supportive of me when I decided to go to graduate school and I appreciate so much the time he took to talk with me about options and help me make decisions around my career path. My deepest condolences to his family, he was one of a kind.

The world truly lost a wonderful person. As one of his students in the Food Studies major, his passion for his work truly inspired me. He was easy talk to about anything, always willing to help, kind, motivational and was just an amazing person all-around. Sending my condolences to his family

Evan was my professor and my advisor throughout my 4 years at Syracuse. Evan is one of the reasons I graduated with a food studies degree and lead me in the path that I'm in today. He was such a kind- hearted, passionate and thoughtful professor and no matter what always had a smile on his face. Im sending my deepest condolences to Evan's Family. He will be missed dearly.
