Eve Blum (nee Tartalsky), age 93, of Freehold passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Centra State Hospital in Freehold, New Jersey. Born in Jersey City, she lived in North Arlington, Verona, Montclair, and Leisure Village West in Manchester, before moving to Applewood Estates in Freehold in 2012. In 1944, she was a member of the Women's Land Army which was housed in the dorms at Glassboro State Teachers College (now Rowan University). These young women spent the summer relieving farm workers so they could serve in the armed services. A 1947 graduate of Henry Snyder High School, Mrs. Blum graduated from Jersey City State Teachers College in 1951. She taught in Carlstadt, Verona, and the Tutoring Center of Montclair. She was a life member of Hadassah, a member of ORT, Helping Hands, Service Club, Civic Club, Viston, and Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Blum was a lay chaplain at Atlantic Coast Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Lakewood. She was one of the founding members of Red Cross Blood Drives in Leisure Village West Mrs. Blum was an active member for many years of Parents of North American Israelis. She also belonged to Congregation Beth Ahm of Verona and Congregation B'nai Israel of Toms River. For the past ten years at Applewood Estates, Mrs. Blum wrote for the Short Stories Club and was a regular contributor to the Spicy Apple Newsletter, acted in the Players Club drama group, coordinated the art gallery and lobby display windows, facilitated Ted Talks lectures, and participated in many other clubs and activities. Predeceased by her husband, Herbert Blum and her grandson, Yoshiahu Blum, Mrs. Blum is survived by her daughter, Shari Brecher and her husband, Steven Brecher; her son, Shlomo (Steven) Blum, her five grandchildren, Elissa Marks and her husband Jeremy Marks, Andrew Brecher, Meir David Blum and his wife Sapir Blum, Netta Guggenheim and her husband Yair Guggenheim, Yosef Blum, and her five great grandchildren, Landon and Kelsey Marks, Emmanuel and Shmuel Guggenheim, and Tohar Blum. She is also survived by her three siblings, Joel Tarr and his wife Tova Tarr, Miriam Landsman and her husband Donald Landsman, Sylvia Weisbard, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
